Wındows 7 default gateway prefered order problem
I am working with Turkish windows 7 Pro managed in English Windows SBS 2003 domain. I have a few gateways in my office that i can use. In order to change my default gateway to one that is not served by dhcp, i am not able to make it prefered one if i set default gateway from the advanced menu in properties of "Internet protokol v 4 (TCP/IPv4)". If i set "obtain ip address automaticaly", computer first tries the default gateway that is given by dhcp which i don't prefer to trace. An also if the gateway that is given by dhcp is not able to reach the destination, network does not try the others and so for example IE shows the page can not be displayed. I also tired to addroute for the specific page whic i want to reached form my prefered gate way. But it gives "upgrade required" message. Kindly ask you to inform. Thanks and regars.

Physically if you connect to your prefer gateway via any other DHCP servers or gateway, it will fail. That is because in this case the broadcast packs send from your computer cannot reach the gateway. You need to adjust the physical network topology. The following article has described DHCP. Thanks for the information Arthur. But the point is, if i change the default gateway of an XP Pro operating system pc, it really prefers the gateway that i gave and navigate from that gatewat at the same tophology. I also use XP pro pc's at the same tophology that i having problem with windows 7 pro pc. Here is my network details. 10.90.1.10 is my ADSL modem with static ip.10.90.1.1 is Cisco Router and G.SHDSL modem10.90.1.3 is my other ADSL modemDescription: Marvell Yukon 88E8072 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet ControllerPhysical address: ‎18-A9-05-8B-E2-67DHCP Enabled : YesIPv4 Address: 10.90.1.86IPv4 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0Leases: 02 Mart 2010 Sal 16:17:13Lease end: 10 Mart 2010 Çaramba 16:17:12IPv4 Dfault Gateways : 10.90.1.10, 10.90.1.1, 10.90.1.3IPv4 DHCP Server: 10.90.1.5IPv4 DNS Server: 10.90.1.5...According to this configuration, my navigations should be routed from 10.90.1.10 as per XP pro machines do. But any time I try, it routes from 10.90.1.1 gateway which is distributed by DHCP. That is what i could not understand? In any case i can arrange ome specfic settings at DHCP server for my pc to use 10.90.1.10 as default gateway. But if there is more then one gateway could be set for PC, what the others do if one of them could not route my requests?

How do you change the default gateway in Windows XP, via routing table? In Windows 7 we are not able to change the system specified routes in routing table with commands. If you would like to change the default gateway, I suggest you change the IPv4 settings. Please manually assign a IP address, and then click the Advanced tab, define a DHCP server.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Not via routing table, i change IPv4 settings as below mentioned;Main purpose is to be able to get ip, dns and other configurations via DHCP server except default gateway. So, on the main page of properties of "Internet protocol v 4 (TCP/IPv4)", obtain ip automatically and obtain DNS automatically is selected. In the IP Settings tab of advanced page, i add default gateway. I do the same way in XP Pro and it works and it routes via defaultgateway that i added in advanced page. But it doesn't work in windows 7. When i make tracert, i see the packages route via the gateway obtained by DHCP. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks and regards.
