Workstations Cannot Map Drives Until Server Is Rebooted
I have read many postings about workstations loosing their connection over time, but this is not that issue. I have a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit computer that I share some folders on. I call this the server. I have 4 workstations. 2 Windows 7 and 2 Windows XP. I have mapped a couple of drives on the workstations to the folders on the server. Everything is working fine. At night I have all of the workstations shut down. I leave the server on so that it can do its backup at night. In the morning when the workstations are started, they are not able to reconnect to the network drives. If I restart the server at that point WITHOUT restarting the workstations the workstations are then able to connect to the network drives. Can someone tell me why I have to reboot the server each morning to get the workstations to map the drives and how to fix it?

Hi, Here are some suggestions you can try on the server side: 1. Upgrade the NIC driver to the latest one and temporarily turn off firewall to check the result. 2. Modify the following network settings. a. Click Start, right click Computer and choose Properties. b. Click Device Manager. c. Navigate to device which you want to disable Saving Power function, right click it and choose Properties. d. Choose Power Management tab. e. Please uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. f. Restart the computer and test this issue again. Thanks, Novak
