Workplace VPN from Home network : Error 812
Hi, I have windows 7 professional on my home system. Till 2 days back my VPN connection from home network to workplace network was working fine. The only thing thing that's changed on my system is that i installed Microsoft Security Updates. Error 812 : The connection was prevented because of a policy configured on your RAS/VPN server. Specifically the authentication method used by the server to verify your username and password may not match the authentication method configured in your connection profile. Please contact the Administrator of the RAS server and notify them of this error. The admin guys at my company said : Change your type of VPN to : PPTP from Automatic in the security tab in VPN connection properties. But still facing the same problem.

Hi, Error 812 comes when Authentication protocol is set via NPS (Network Policy and Access Services) Please verify that you have the correct settings on Server and Client side and if it still fails share with the NETSH RAS logs of the Client: 1. Open an command prompt with admin privilege 2. Netsh ras set trac * en 3. Repro the scenario (try to connect to the server) 4. Netsh ras set trac * dis 5. Send all the files located at %Windir%\tracing\ Please sent this log for me, since it contains many important information. My e-mail is: v-tanzhe@microsoft.com Also please refer the following article: http://blogs.technet.com/b/rrasblog/archive/2009/08/12/troubleshooting-common-vpn-related-errors.aspx Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
