Workgroup inaccessible to Windows XP
3 Windows XP Pro sp3 computers in a workgroup shared a folder nicely. 3 Windows 7 Pro 64bit computers added to the workgroup. Moved the shared a folder to one of the Win7 systems. Everything worked, for a month. Now the XP machines cannot access the shared folder on the Win7 system, and worse, they are denied access to browse the workgroup. "You might not have permission to use this network . . ." This is a classic "we didn't change anything" scenario; no new software installed, no firewall added, no anti-virus added. A few days ago one of the XP systems could not reach a mapped drive, then two hours later the same happens with another. By the next morning, the last XP system had lost access to the shared folder and the workgroup. XP systems still have access to the internet, can ping the ip addresses and the network names (UNC) of the Win7 computers. I have spent at least 12 hours over 2 days trying to solve this, and have tried all of the answers I could find so far. I have also found a discouraging number of posts to other forums where the users say something like "I have been waiting 2 months now and still no answers - someone, anyone?" I will endeavor to be a model student to all who respond with help on this subject.

No takers on this? Wahaaaaaaah (baby crying) Let me rephrase it in the hope that someone will notice and reply . . . Windows 7 Pro 64bit in a "workgroup" configuration. 3 systems Win7, 3 systems WinXP Pro. WinXP Pro was able to browse and read shares in the workgroup for a month, and then one day it could not, for no known reason. Now the XP systems cannot even browse the workgroup. Does anyone think they can find where I lost track of things to the point that 1/2 of my computers are denied access?

Hi, I would like to verify when accessing the shared folder, whether you received the window which prompted to enter credentials. First, I suggest perform a system restore on Windows 7. Then, please refer to the following posts to confirm the configuration. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/033c418b-1096-4df7-bfad-fd3d431f3cd5 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/getting-access-is-denied-when-accessing-windows-7/23369f35-bc45-4147-9c3e-74a47d530757 If the issue persists, please also contact Windows XP forum to confirm if there is any configuration should be changed on Windows XP. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itproxpsp/threads Best Regards, Niki Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
