Won't get back on the network and / or online after being idle
Hello, I am experiencing network issue with my XP PCs and a laptop. It started out of blue about week or so back. My units won't get online after being idle for period of time. Let's say I'd walk away from my PC for a meeting and when I'm back I would try to go to the IE, or work off of my shares they wouldn't get network access. The way I was able to use network resources I'd click on IE or shares then in few seconds or a minute I'd be back up, other times it happens in middle of the work. The switch was replaced, network cable was replaced, I reconfigured different NIC to be responsible for DHCP, online access, shares, etc, though, nothing changed. Any direction or feedback is greatly appreciated. M-L-S1 person needs an answerI do too

In your power management settings do you have it configured to put your network adapter to sleep? If so, you might want to disable that. Do you have the most recent drivers for your network card installed?-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

I was looking for issue on server, network sides and have not checked the PCs and laptop. NIC, power settings haven't been an issue since week or so back, though, that thought crossed my mind. That's something I will look over and then update the forum. Thanks, M-L-S

When the PC is offline do you see anything on the system tray indicating that the Network Connection is offline or otherwise not working? If you go to the command prompt (Start | Run | CMD) on the PC and try to ping the server does it work? What kind of server is it? Windows 2003? Something else?-B--B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

I believe that it shows that the network connection is off line. When PC starts working I am able to ping the server, but I am not sure about before that. The issue is that I am trying to resolve the issue remotely. The server is IBM's Lotus Foundation. It is a network appliance which provides complete solution to small business. M-L-S
