You have the wrong server settings for your outgoing mail. Contact Big Pond (your ISP, yes?) or look on its website for the correct settings.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

I spoke with Big pond technical service & they suggested I get onto www.answers.microsoft.com chatline ---this is v.new 4 me & a bit scary!!Bigpond tech services checked the server settings. Thanks

I don't know anything about a chatline. This is a web forum. Were you ever able to send email? If yes, what changed? Are you at the same location where you use Big Pond as your ISP or out of town?MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Yes we were able to send emails. I think I caused problem by bringing up Open Office. Org Writer Installions thru Icon on desktop. I thought it was the Open Org writer programme & mistakenly typed in the document that appeared & attached it to an email & sent it off. I may be wrong but I think that caused the problem. One email (without attachment eventually went thru to our home computer) but not 2 with attachments. They just kept going to Outbox. Have just tried to send another email-without attachment & same window "the host mail.bigpond.com could not be found, please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.I am at same location. Thanks.

Lynette - Mr. Hagen is the most accomplished Outlook Express expert you could ever find so I'm going to leave you in his hands. Please do exactly as he asks and post the error message. Do not paraphrase it. I doubt very much whether OpenOffice has anything to do with this unless you tried to send a too-large attachment and corrupted Outlook Express. But Mr. Hagen can address that far better than I.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Forget Ctrl+V. If you left click on the error message the text turns blue. Right click on the text and then left click on the Copy option. Come right back here and reply to this post. Put the cursor in the message area. Right click and then left click on the Paste option. If you can't do this for whatever reason, you're going to have to with it down and then type it in here word for word.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

OK, thank you. Looking at your original post, please answer these 4 questions.Did this start after trying to send an attachment that was on the large size?If yes, did it ever send? If it went, does it show in Sent Items? Is the Outbox empty now? Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

!. 1. Because I was in Open Office Org Installation & thought I was emailing a document, I wonder if it was trying to send the whole file of the installation aspect & therefore would have been a big attachment. 2.No. I deleted the 2 with attachments & then permanently deleted them. 3.No 4.No, the outbox has 2 other emails that do not have attachments, waiting to be sent. Thanks

OK. I am taking your word that the account setting are as they should be. I can't find anything form Bigpond to dispute that.I need you to do possible two things.Create a new Outbox, reboot and try. If the problem persists, turn off e-mail scanning. This may involve removing and reinstalling your AV program.First the Outbox.Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.In Windows XP, 2K & 2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX file for the Outbox.dbx and delete it. A new, empty one will be created automatically when you open OE.Reboot & try to send. If still no joy:Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your emailhttp://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htmNote that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option arises. Thankyou, a very interesting thing happened. I had been using Notebook with an ethereal cable plugged into our home computer modem. Iprimus the provider for that computer. During the day, my husband began using the notebook, but removed the ethereal cable & plugged our Bigpond USB stick into Notebook. He found that emails would go to their destination. So we tried again the ethereal cable & the same problem occurred. So before I begin your instructions I feel led to contact Bigpond again & tell them what has happened & see what they say. Then I can come back to your instructions. My appreciation for all your effort to now. Am not sure, do I vote now on all the boxes that gave me a reply from you or do I wait until after bigponds response? Sincerely L

Hi. The bigpond technician made me aware Internet Service Providers (ISP) have security driven restrictions on their network services. (When using wireless connection at Libraries there may not be a problem due to less restrictions.)Whichever ISP I have, plugged into my Notebook, whether by Ethernet cable or USBcard/stick--I must have their outgoing message code entered into my Notebook.I can change that outgoing message code to suit the server. As long as I know the message code of the relevant server. So this has solved the problem of not being able to send messages. To change to the relevant servers message code, on Outlook Express home page, I clicked on TOOLS >ACCOUNTS>double click on chosen A/c>SERVERS then change outgoing server then click on Apply, then click on O.K.I apologise I had not explained at an earlier stage that I had ethernet cable -different ISP, plugged into Notebook. Thankyou for help. L
