Wireless signal strength with Vista
Dell D620, 2gb ram, Installed Vista for the 2nd time in 6 months. I uninstalled the first time because I couldn't get the wireless to stay up for more than 30 minutes without restarting the computer. I have just reinstalled Visat a couple of weeks ago and loaded RC1 and the wireless seems a little more stable. My D-Link DI624 used to be in the lower level of my house and I always had at least fair to good wireless strength and not too bad wireless speed, and with my Vista install, wireless always shows poor signal strength. I even moved the router to within 2 feet of my laptop and it still says poor to fair signal strength with either one or two bars on the meter. Connection to my local network resources and the internet are nowhere near the speed of XP and it is making me quite frustrated. I have updated all my drivers (internal wireless), router firmware, etc and I am still at a loss as to why the wireless strength is still so low and slow. I have disabled IPV6 in the network settings. Anybody have any ideas or point me in the right direction?

Hi, Are you using the Wireless Card: Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 ABG Network Connector? I performed researches and noticed that it is a known issue with Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 ABG Network Connector. If the latest driver shipped by Intel cannot fix the issue, please use other Wireless Card and check the result. Hope it helps. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support
