Wireless network dropping sessions
Windows 7 seems to drop sessions when using wireless networking, something Vista did not do. It primarily seems to happen when the computer sits idle for a while, and it's most noticeable with SSH and IRC sessions.I've looked through the power management settings to see if Windows might be disabling the wireless NIC to save power, but it doesn't seem to be set that way. This occurs both on battery and on A/C power.I realize it's a beta, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

Hi, It is with the issue in the following thread. Dell Latitude D620 Wifi eliminated from sleep/wake Check the related option first. If it does not work, we could consider that it is a driver issue. We also experienced such issue in older Windows versions, and most of the issues are resolved after users reinstall or upgrade the network adapter drivers.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I am running the latest x64 Vista driver available from Dell, and they fixed the wireless wake-from-sleep issue for Vista a while ago.I can use the WLAN card and connect to wireless networks just fine; however, Win7 seems to have trouble obtaining an IP address from the DHCP server once connected. In at least one such instance, I've seen repeated DHCPOFFER packets go out from the DHCP server only to get ignored by Windows.

Hi, Yes, in that thread the hardware is different. However, in both threads the network adapter will not work after resume from Sleep Mode. We have experienced this kind of issues several times. It occurred when the installed network adapter driver is corrupt or not compatible. When Windows Vista was just launched, several customers encountered this issue and finally we are able to resolve them after installing the latest driver the manufacturer released, or installing patches. As you mentioned that the NIC does not obtain IP address properly, this is most likely a compatibility issue. I hope that Dell would release new drivers for Windows 7 beta or later versions.
