Wireless issue
Hello, I'm not sure if anyone has ever heard of this problem, but I'll still give it a shot. I will try to explain it as much as I can.Say I connected to my network, but then, if I turn off the router without turning off the wireless on my laptop, and then I turn the router back on again, my laptop wont connect to the network again -- it can't even find any access points! (I got two access points in my house) -- (I have to restart my laptop to fix it) But, I wont have any issues if I turn off the wireless on my laptop before turning off the router. It would connect again with no problem. Does anyone think it could be a service that I disabled or put on manual? If you need more info, please ask!Any help greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Hi,Yes, I have seen the behaviour you are describing with an ASUS wireless NIC. Haven't determined the exact cause but my best bet would be faulty drivers.Victor Constantinescu - MVP Security, MCTS

I've not seen that but then I never (or I should say rarely) turn off my wireless router. Even then it would only be a short power off power on sequence. In my case I have a Belkin F5D7010 wireless card in my Vista Ultimate laptop and used a Belkin F5D7230-4 wireless router in the past. I have since upgraded to a ZyXEL NBG334W wireless router. Go to manufacturer website and download the latest wireless adapter's driver, uninstall the old one and install the latest one, after that try again. If the problem persists, you can also take a look on these Vista network troubleshooting tips to help you.

Hm.. alright, thanks for the tips guys! I'll try them out.And to be more specific, my laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6700; and I really don't think this is a problem with the router/modem, because my netbook doesn't have the same problem.

Ok, this may be another clue of what may be wrong:I can make the switch from wireless to wired internet with no problem. However, I can't make the switch from wired to wireless. I unplug the ethernet cable from the laptop, switch on the wireless, it connects, the two "TVs" would turn on, but no globe, ever (unable to surf the web at that moment). Then, after a moment, it disconnects from the network (the "X" appears), and cannot reconnect because it says that it cannot find any networks.

Hi, Thank you for the posts. Based on my research, I will suggest the following: 1. Please upgrade the driver of Wireless NIC. (If you want, please let me know the exact brand and model of the Wireless NIC, and we may help you check the manufacturers website.) 2. Check the network settings: Please go to Control Panel Network Connections, right click on your connection and choose Properties. (if you have multiple connections, please check the one you use and disable the unnecessary ones. ) 1) On the Network Tab of your Connection properties, please choose Internet Protocol Version 4 and click "Properties. And then check if both of the IP Address and DNS are set to be delivered automatically. 2) If it is set to obtain the IP Address and DNS automatically, please try to manually assign IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and the DNS settings referring to your routers settings to see if this works. After checking, if the issue persists, please help collect more information: 1. When the issue occurs, please run CMD and then ipconfig /all to export all the network settings and post the information to this thread. 2. Based on my experience, the issue may also be related to the device drivers of the NIC chipsets and the firmware of the router. Therefore, I would like to suggest that you also check your wireless router manufacturers website and check if there is any upgrade version of firmware. Hope this helps. Nicholas Li - MSFT
