Wireless connectivity
I have just installed the 7 beta on my laptop (Toshiba L300 also known as an L30-113) and have since not been able to connect to the internet via wireless. I have Virgin Media cable coming through a standard Virgin issue modem then going wireless through a Buffalo AirStation.Nothing has changed in my setup but i keep gettingthe sameerror message when running network diagnostics which states that my network adapter "does not have a valid ip configuration". I have manually installed the correct drivers for my wireless adapter (Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adapter) i have forced install of the correct driversby manually selecting the correct file to use, i have also used the update driver button in the properties of the network adapters. Everytime i am told that everything is upto date. When i have a LAN plugged in everything works fine itis just the wireless. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Please ask if i have missed anything out.

Seems to be driver incompatibility. Because on my Laptop Acer 5920G with "Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG" adapter everythig works fine, without any troubles.Everyone have to understand - it's a Beta of Windows 7.

Hey,I also had the same issue with my PC, but as soon as my computer wasconnected to Internet via Ethernet, the vireless adaptor was updated and running smooth!Note that Windows 7 does not come with several drivers for your hardware. Those who have not connected to Internet, try connecting to Internet via Ethernet. Windows 7 will automatically find several updates for your PC drivers and install them. If you have already tried connecting to the Internet, ran windows update, and still have hardware issue, try downloading the hardware driver from the manufecturer's website. Hope this helps.Zaheer Sheikh

I got the solution for this problem. the windows does not install the wireless driver completely, you should install it manually from device manager and then update drive. use the selection of install the drive from HDD and then use install the drive from windows driver and when you got the driver click on the command button "Have a disk" and then browse to the folder that contains the installation file. It works for me.You should have the installation file which is compatable with the vista

Please ask if i have missed anything out.I also had this same error a few days after I first installed Windows 7. The internet worked for a bit, and then for a very bizarre reason, Windows allocated me an IP address of 169.254.221.240 :( I had the error "The network adapter "Wireless Network Connection" does not have a valid IP configuration. Here is a workaround if you are on a home network using a wireless router. This does not fix Windows, but instead it allows your router to allocate the IP address. Only one of my computers was affected, but I did this on all three computers as prevention. I hope this is not too difficult to follow. Good Luck. I can only offer advice to the best of my ability and technical qualifications (none). I believe the following instructions are accurate and easy to follow but there is no guarantee. I am presuming your settings are the same or similar to mine, but if not then you can find the exact details by telephoning Virgin Media who sold you the router. * Plug in the network cable. * Open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG /ALL * Look for the line "default gateway" and write down the number. (For example, mine is 192.168.0.1) * Look under the heading "Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection", and find the line which says "physical address" and write down the number. (For example, mine is 00-15-AE-04-8B-09) * Open Internet Explorer and type in the address for the default gateway which you wrote down earlier. * You'll be prompted for the router password. My password is admin. Your password is also probably admin. If your password is not admin, then telephone Virgin Media to find out your password. * Within the router setup, look through the different menus until you find a menu which says DHCP. Within the DHCP menu, click on NEW to create a new DHCP client. * In the section which says "MAC address", type in what you wrote down earlier as your "physical address" * In the section which says "IP address", type in what you wrote down earlier as default gateway except change the last digit. (Just randomly choose a number for the last set of digit, I chose '73' so I type my IP address as 192.168.0.73). * Save the changes you made in the router setup. * Reboot the computer to have the new IP address allocated. I sent my problem report to Microsoft, but if anyone is curious I have a Realtek RTL8187 Wireless adapter. Any questions then just ask. Kind Regards, Leon.
