Wireless connection falls away sometimes
Hello,I'm using the Windows 7 beta for quite a while now, however I've got one problem which keeps recurring, and it is very annoying. When I use my wireless connection extensively (usenet, >2MB/s), my connection falls away after a while. When I try to reconnect to a network in my neighborhood, not any of those will connect. All the other laptops/PC's in my network function normally and after a restart the problem seems to be gone. I have Vista/Windows 7 in a dual boot setup, and the problem never shows up when I am using Vista. I tried installing the newest broadcom driver, but that makes no difference, the connection keeps falling away sometimes. My router is fine, as the other PC's function normally. My TCP/IP settings are static: 192.168.1.8; 255.255.255.0; 192.168.1.1. There are no other machines conflicting with this IP. System: Dell XPS M1330, Windows 7 (32 bit), Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter.Usenet software: Grabit 1.7.2 Beta 3Note: I don't have the problem on Vista on the same system, so I don't think it is a hardware problem. Also, I am only using my internet connection extensively when I am downloading from usenet. Thanks in advantage, Bob

Does the laptop lose ALL connectivity to your router (Local and Internet), or just internet access ?And, have you had another machine powered up and connected, at the same moment in time as when the Win7 machine is experiencing the problem ?Lastly - does the Win7 box see ANY networks at all when it drops from your network ?

Thanks for your quick reply, Jim. My laptop loses all connectivity, it can not connect to any of the wireless networks in my neighborhood.Other machines in my network function properly while my laptop with Windows 7 does not (tested wireless and wired). The strange thing is, Win7 does see a lot of wireless networks, even some new ones (but they have not enough signal), however I can not connect to any of them, which is very strange.. (no, i don't use static settings when trying to connect toanother network). When I restart Win7, the problem is gone for a while.

Hmmm...Have you checked the event logs to see if there are any related messages ?(Right-click on 'Computer' and select Manage... on the left pane, click on the arrow next to Event Viewer, then on the arrow next to Windows Logs... then select the System log... scroll through to the time when networking stopped, and see if there are any entries related to a service stopping, or an error message of some sort. If you see entries, but don't seem to lead anywhere, try to copy/paste them here and perhaps several different eyes can help sort it out.Jim

I think I have the same, or a similar problem... I do not know how to solve it yet. But instead of restarting your computer try disabling and re-enabling your wireless adapter, that works for me. I have checked the log as SixdaysNL suggested but all it says is having suddenly 'warnings' from the DNS Client Event that some address cannot be resolved (because the connection is down). I try to reconnect to the network but I get stuck at 'Identifying' and no connections can be made. Hope this might give a little insight.. or help just a bit

Disabling/re-enabling my wireless adapter didn't work, off course that was one of the first things I tried :) No, I really have to restart Win7, which is very annoying. Unfortunately the problem has not re-occurred yet again. When the problem re-occurs again, I'll post it asap.

The problem is a driver compatability issue, I have the exact same laptop with a a Dell 1505 wireless draft N Broadcom BMC4323 card. Using the Vista Drivers under windows 7 caused the same problem. What finally worked for me was using and older driver and making sure I ran it in compatibility mode for Vista. The drawback is that I lost the N speed as the driver I found that worked was only b,g.

Hi turbo50t, thank you for your answer! I have that same Wireless card! I'm not actually in an N network so I'm fine with only b/g. Could you please give a little more insight on your solution? Which driver did you use? How do I force to use the older driver instead of the actual one? How do I run it with vista compatibility? Thank you very much

The problem reocurred again.
