Wireless connection drops with Windows 7
I have been reading all of the forums trying to find a solution. I see that many people have the same problem but I don't see a definite fix. I found many suggestions but none of them seem to be a concrete resolution to the problem I read uninstalling drivers and dropping the HOMEGROUP and all sorts of things... I just installed Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade - 32 bit. And I noticed that while browsing the web I loose connectivity. I run the diagnostics tool and it tells me that it reset the adapter and I also reset my router but the problem continues. I noticed that A LOT of people are having and were having this issue with the Windows 7 RC as well One poster was told to start a new thread even though his problem was identical to what we are all experiencing. He started a new thread and again i did not see a fix for him. I'm really disappointed I updated my driver and still have the same problem. All the other computers in my house running Vista and XP are fine so i know it is not the router. My laptop was connecting fine until I installed Windows 7 Can someone finally help? I ran windows update today also but nothing has changed I can connect fine but once connected, at random times the connection just drops I'm not a computer techy so a lot of the fixes and info that I read went right over my head CAN SOMEONE HELP IN PLAIN ENGLISH? WITH SO MANY RELATED TOPICS, YOU WOULD THINK THE ANSWER WOULD BE HERE SOMEWHERE! All of these people in the following threads are experiencing the same problem http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/bd559847-f96e-4021-a5ea-32661c382a85 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/b33a8598-0557-4023-8092-805be3f557ca HELP!!!

Just a thought how far is the range between the laptop and the router when you try accessing it? Is there any wall or stuff that might block or weaken the connection? Alternatively you might want to consider getting a wireless repeater to extend the range of the local wireless network as well as change the wireless channel on the router configuration

Well if that was a problem then wouldn't it be a problem before i installed Windows7? I didn't have any issues with Vista Also would like to say that I may have solved the problem..(I hope) I looked around on the HP support forums and found Windows7 drivers and after uninstalling the existing driver, installed the new one and so far so good. But only time will tell I guess. It happens so randomly it is hard to tell right now

Thank you for your update. If the issue reoccurs, please let us know. In addition, I suggest updating BIOS and Chipset as well.Vivian Xing - MSFT

Window 7 32 bit drops once a day using linksys router connected 1 meter to pc... I just reconnect using DHCP release & renew... Happens only on my W7 . My other PC with XP no problem using same router! It's no biggie but I wonder what might be? Power line's voltage fluctuations ? Regards! :P Petare Kid!

I had windows XP on my netbook and never had this issue in the past, but once I updated to windows 7 my connection keeps dropping. I can be a foot away from the router or be upstairs and have this issue. I have 20 AP's in my area (Apartment) and it looks like windows 7 bounces around trying to find the best signal and disconnects me. Tried placing my signals on channels 1 through 11, but i'm still having this issue. Delected the options that was on all the singals to always connect to this wireless network, which I never selected to begin with. Odd thing is that I put a wireless card in my XP desktop and it never disconnects. I have updated the drivers the best I can, and I have a new linksys router and since the XP computer's and my Android phone do not have this issue it has to be an issue with Windows 7. My next attempt is use a wireless utility to connect. (I hate them but the one with windows 7 is just not working.) Or manually create the connection in windows 7 and stop broadcasting my SSID. If anyone has idea's it would be of great help.

Not a issue with windows 7, it is an issue with your gear / drivers.there are 100's of post here dealing with this, my answer to "me too" post is to tell you to read the other postings (I put as much effort in as you did).now if you would like to really post some info I would suggest you do the right thing a start a new post (this one is marked answered). You need to provide info about the hardware in play here..talking about having 20 AP's bla blah blah adds nothing for us to work with, as the issue is KNOWN to be non-supported hardware / software. Now if you find I am rude (as I have been told) for wanting you to post info. sorry but that is how you get help...by helping us help you.

Found the solution to my issue!!! I have a Linksys WRT110, and windows 7 has a IPv6 protocol setup by default. Windows 7 was prompting my router for a IPv6 address which the Linksys WRT110 does not support. Went into my adapter settings and disabled IPv6, and i'm no longer having this issue. Just goes to show you that it can be anything.

I am not saying that what you state is incorrect, what you experience is probably true and frustrating. On the other hand my experience is totally different, like you I have a mix of XP and 7 machines on the wireless router.Every time my 7 machine returns from hibernation or goes to hibernation there is a likely chance the wireless will drop. This also drops the wireless to our XP based pc's, so there I would assume the cause is indeed the W7 based laptop but it seems to affect the router.I use that same 7 laptop at work on our staff WIFI, guess? It drops the wireless there too but there it only affects my connection and does not drop the others. Go figure!

I had networking problems as well. 3 computers running Windows 7. 2 had Adobe CS3 installed which brings with is a piece of software called Bonjour. These two computers had no end of networking problems. 1 was a desktop connected to the router and the other was a laptop connecting via WiFi. Third computer didn't have CS3 and didn't have any trouble at all. In trying to find a solution (nothing seemed to work), I came across the solution shown below in a different thread and thought I would share it. I installed the upgrade for Bonjour (it's listed as Windows Vista 64 software) and all of my network problems cleared up. My thanks to "PDX Prod Mgr". Brilliant! " PDX Prod Mgr I had the same problem when I rebuilt my Windows 7 system. I had CS3 installed on my system, it installs an old version of bonjour. If you inspect your program files\bonjour directory, see if you have an EXE and DLL file dated 2006. Jump over to apple's website and search for windows bonjour. I found the newer download here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/Bonjour_for_Windows Download and install this (you don't have to uninstall the old Bonjour) and reboot. This fixed my install and I no longer have the network error you describe. If you look at that folder now, you will have the newer DLLs (and some other gunk.) "

will you please stop posting this solution everywhere as it is NOT a universal fixme and can do more damage than good. thanks On Tue, 18 May 2010 22:28:53 +0000, Newyorkjbe wrote: > > >Delete the key found in: > >HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\State > >No More Disconnections. Same problem as Debula. Windows 7 ocasionally drops my WEP router network ID from the Wireless Network Connection list. Cable (ethernet) connection to the router works fine. My adapter driver is the latest. I've rebooted my router after allowing it to rest. The wireless card works, and at this moment I am using a Public wireless connection that is unsecured. Does anyone know a solution that can be expressed simply and clearly? Can I get my wireless connection back?

what do you mean by "WEP router network ID"? do you mean SSID - the name of your network? do you mean that your WEP key stops working? Please start a NEW thread and completely describe your issue along with what router/firmware and NIC/driver version. BTW, WEP is about as safe as no security at all. You should be using WPA2-AES. Allowing your router "to rest" won't resolve anything. On Thu, 19 Aug 2010 11:11:49 +0000, SeymourK wrote: > > >Same problem as Debula. Please start a new thread and describe YOUR issue. Please include router brand, model, hardware rev and if you have the latest firmware. Also, what wireless NIC? driver version and what type of wireless security you are using (you should use WPA2-AES). As for the post you reference, what computers and devices do you have on YOUR network? If you are having a master browser issue (election) it is important to know YOUR network topology.
