Wireless access using Windows 7
Laptop HD crashed on my Dell Inspiron 1520 so I replaced it and installed Windows 7. All I have tried works except the 802.11 wi-fi connection. After initial OS install, I was able to manually enter the SSID and security info and the PC found the network but would not connect. After a couple of days of trying and software updates from Microsoft including the last SP1 update, the PC no longer is able to find the network. I have installed the latest driver for 802.11 on the Dell but it may not be compatible with Windows 7. Ethernet connection to the router works fine and Cisco Linksys WRT54G2 V1 router works with my other wireless devices. Does anyone have a suggestion for the Dell wi-fi?

Hi, Please check whether you can find other wireless network using this laptop? Also, I suggest you perform the following steps. 1. Temporarily disable Windows Firewall and antivirus program on the Windows 7 machine to check the result. 2. Temporarily disable the Local Area Connection. 3. Reinstall the wireless driver to test the issue. 4. Reset WinSock a. Click Start, click "All programs", and click "Accessories". b. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Please enter the following command, and press Enter. Netsh winsock reset d. A message stating "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog" will appear. Please restart the computer. Hope this helps. Vincent Wang TechNet Community Support
