My issue is a little different, using my home Network Dlink Dir-655 N routerusing WEP, (because I got an iPod Touch for Christmas), I can't connect and faster than 5.5, on my neighbor's Belkin N router using WPA2 I can connect at 58. Fijitsu T4220 with windows installing drivers, and even after I downloaded the latest driver from Fujitsu. Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN is the card. The best I've ever connected was 130 with the same system running XP.

I'm having the exact same problem with the D-Link DWA-556 N PCI Express Xtreme Wireless Desktop Adapter and Windows 7 x64 version. This card uses the Atheros AR5418 chipset (the DWA552 uses the AR5416) (this is from some brief googling and could be incorrect). They are both part of the Atheros AR5008 chip family. I am connecting to a DIR-825 N Router.Under Vista x64 with the most recent drivers downloaded from Windows Update (dated 1/2009, iirc), the card would connect at the expected 300mbps and transfer at expected speeds. Under Windows 7's driver, it will only connect at 54mbps and transfers at the respective transfer speeds.I have tried various Vista x64 Atheros drivers for this chipset that can be found online but none of them would successfully install (blue screen ->instant reboot->driver install failed & no network). I understand that Vista x64 drivers are typically inter-operable with Win7 but perhaps that's not the case with network drivers. My hunch at this point is that the Win7 drivers from Atheros is the root cause of the issue. My brief experience with this card (a couple months) seem to indicate that their drivers, although frequent, have been quite the work in progress as of recent. For example, when the card was installed under Vista x64, transfer speeds were only 1.5Mb/s even with the 300mbps connect speed UNTIL the most recent driver which increased the transfer speeds to an expected range (6-8Mb/s) (& it was instantly noticable as the interference with my wireless mouse increased greatly when transfering files as compared to the interference with the slower drivers).I look forward to others' contributions. I've searched far and wide and tried numerous drivers with no luck. Hopefully someone can find some replacement drivers or a solution or Atheros comes through with a new driver Win7 driver shortly. Other search terms (to enhance participation and contribution as people search for the same problem): DWA556 Dlink 5418 5418 5008Chris

I have also a related issue with the DWA-556 and Win7 x64. I get some bytes through the air, but then the speed drops to <1k. And it seems like everything just hangs there. I have tried several drivers for the Atheros chipset, including older Vista x64 ones as well without any success. I am not ruling out the possibility of a HW failure, however the connection was stable and worked perfectly on my Vista64 installation only moments before I installed Win7. Anyone else experienced difficulties with this card?

I have a similar issue with the DWA-556 (router DIR-655) but under Windows 7 x86. In the connection panel, it's says 300Mbps but internet transfert is around 45Ko/s compared to the ususal 2Mo/s (reached with my PS3 connected via ethernet). Is a wireless keyboard/mouse could interfere and explain the issue ?
