Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration
Just last week I was unable to connect to the internet on my desktop pc. I checked the connection via my netbook and all was fine so I haven't bothered to reset my router because the connection has been working on my netbook, on my sisters iphones etc. The wireless connection on my desktop is stating that it is connected and that I have a good signal strength however it is showing that I'm current connected to an "Unidentified network" with "No Internet Access". I've tried rolling back my pc to see if this fixed it - no joy I've tried typing ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew in the command prompt - the message that pops up in command prompt when renew the ipconfig is "An error occurred while renewing interfacee Wireless Network Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has time out." I can't understand what has suddenly changed on my desktop to suddenly cause this to occur as everything has been working fine. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Corrina.

What is the ip address you are getting? I think you may be getting 169.254.X.x I think that IP stack may be corrupted. Please try to reset the TCP/ip stack and see that helps 1. Open a command prompt, click Start and then click Run. cmd 2. At the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command and then press ENTER: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt Note If you do not want to specify a directory path for the log file, use the following command: netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt 3. Reboot the computer.

If that works well and good else try this On the cmd prompt Type "Netsh winsock reset". Then reboot Check and see if that works If not then import these two keys from a working machine HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WinSock HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WinSock2 From your machine delete them and then import them to your machine and then reboot your machine.

Have you installed any new software in the last week or so? Something like iTunes, Quicktime, Photoshop or anything else by Apple or Adobe? (Flash and/or Acrobat don't count.)

You can test to manually configure IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS servers on the desktop, after that test again. The IP address must be unique on your network, but the other network settings are the same as other working computers, so you could refer to other computer to check the network settings.
