Wireless Connection Issue
I have a laptop with a wireless connection to an AT&T u-verse router and two pc's wired to the router. When I specificy an IP address for the wireless connection using Use the Following IP Address:, the laptop is only able to see itself on the network and the two pc's can only see each other. When I allow the router to assign an IP address, using Obtain anIP Address Automatically:, all of the computers are able to see each other on the network. When I specify the IP address, I assign the same subnet and default gateway as the two pc's, which is also the same as those assigned by the router. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the two options is the IP address used by the laptop. Any thoughts on what would cause this difference?Additional Info:All of the computers are assigned to the same workgroup. The laptop uses Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.The two pc's use Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. This issue occurs may be due to that both the alternate IP address and the static IP address remain on the network interface. If it is thecase, laptop keep detecting two PCs IP addresses as the previous alternate IP addresses after you configured static IP addresses. Actually, there are not PC available with the previous IP addresses. To troubleshoot this kind of issue, please refer to the following website. When an IP address changes to a static IP address, a static IP address and an alternate IP address remain on the network interface in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926180 Best Regards.
