Wireless Connection DNS error
Hi, i have about 100 student laptops with windows 7, we recently installed a new proxy giving out DHCP automatically. The ip adn dns i received from my ISP is 192.168.1.XX with subnet 255.255.255.0 ang gateway as 192.168.1.1 with dns 168.210.2.2 and alternative dns 196.14.239.2, the proxy is set up to give out dhcp automatically going through a Smoothwall using dns as 192.168.3.1. When connecting to wireless from windows xp and vista, it gets the ip and dns automatically with no problem and connect fine. Only with Windows 7 laptops it gets the ip and dns fine, no problem but no internet access, when you diagnose the problem, it says there is a dns error. Why only Windows 7 laptops?

Hi Sonja.Silly question probably, but is your DHCP server handing out the the DNS server address options? Have you tried hardcoding the DNS IP in the NIC and seeing if you can browse the internet?Kind RegardsTrent Steenholdt

Hi, Have you tried to check DNS hijacking? You may try Sophos nor MalwareBytes that were suggested in the thread I provided.Arthur Xie - MSFT
