Wired Network Connection unavailable when booting Windows 7 from shut down state
Hi all,I have a problem that when I shut down windows 7 and then reboot at a later date, the network connection to my local network always fails (yellow triangle with exclaimation mark over the tray icon).I've tried using the troubleshooter to resolve the problem, i've tried releasing the IP address and re assigning one.The only thing that fixes it is to go into my network connections window and disable the network adapter then re-enable it (this then connects fine). If i sleep the computer and rewake it then it has no problems with reconnecting the network connection, it is only when the computer has been shut down. This is a tad bizarre because you'd expect all drivers to be loaded fresh on cold boot and to have more of a problem with waking from sleep, but it's the other way round for me.Any ideas?

I was suffering from the same problem, and actually came here trying to find a solution. Each time my system rebooted two Network Connections were created at Win 7 startup (One Home Network and one Public Shared Network).I imagine there is a conflict that prevents an Internet connection. I think it may be because they share the same parameters.Mynetwork is set up through a Linksys Wireless-G broadband router. I have a laptop with Vista and a system with XP connected to the network, along with the Win 7 system. My fix was to do what you have been doing - disable, then allow troubleshooter to reestablish just one network connection..So, Itrudged onto see if I couldfix this glitch. I switched my network from Home to Work, figuring the Homegroup feature might be the culprit, as Homegroup is disabled in a Work environment. This did not solve the problem.I then checked the box in Set Network Location to 'treat all future networks that I connect to as public'. Upon reboot, only the Work Network connection showed up.But I did not have a connection to the internet.I then set up the computer to join a Homegroup, which automatically switched the network connection back to a Home Network, andit immediately allowed a connection to the internet.Upon reboot, it took a minute, but an internet connection was established, with only the one Home Network connection.I reboot a second time, and... multiple networks again. In advanced Sharing Settings, I turned off network discovery and file sharingfor the Home or Work, and left it on for Public. I switched it out and turned them off for Public and on for Home. The results were mixed upon multiple reboots. After peering more into what's going on, I noticed that a media card reader in my HP Laserjet CM1312 MFP was appearing as a network item. The printer is connected and accessed through the router so it is available on the network. Iunplugged the cable and rebooted. Success. Two more reboots, and the problem appeared to be fixed, although adapter configuring and connecting seem to take some time.To check and see if that was actually the cause, I plugged the printer cable back into the router and rebooted. Putting the printer back on the network had no effect. There was only one connection and it worked fine.Multiple reboots, and no problems.Bottom line, I fiddled aroundso much that ireally don't know what I did.My guess is checking the box to treat all future networks as public connections had something to do with it. I'm not sure if you can use this information, but I figured sharing my trials and tribulations is better than keeping it to myself.I hope all works outfor you.

Yep same here folks. I initially thought that maybe the Asus MB drivers needed to be installed, thinking that perhaps the Win 7 drivers were only meant as temps to get the system running and that might have been causing the issue. But nay, that was not the case. I did what you and Rich pretty much did. I disabled the network card and then re-enabled it and voila, I connected again. Had this problem just this morning before posting this reply. One thing I did notice in my NIC card settings was that the (Flow Control) option somehow got disabled so I had to set that back to Tx & Rx. Luckily that issue has not creeped up again. I also had the symptom where two network groups show up where there should only be one and this issue always takes place after a reboot or log off / Log in event. But if all I have to do is Restart the adapter every time then things could be worse I suppose. But it does get a little annoying having to do that all the time. So far Win 7 seems pretty stable. It doesn't feel like Vista, XP, 2K or any of the previous MS-OS releases. Doesn't seem top heavy and the install is pretty fast. The nice thing about this install is that it recognizes the Sata II DVD-ROM drives without having to boot from a floppy to pre-load the ROM drivers in order to get the install going. Also found this little nugget of info online: Check to see if you have this little devil in your services list: "##Id_String2.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B87 9762 ##" If you do, stop it and disable it. It is actually the Bonjour DNS Responder Service, and I believe it is the cause of the "Unidentified Network." The Unidentified Network disappeared after stopping this service and a quick disable/enable of the NIC, restoring Internet access. I Actually just rebooted, edited this post, and then re-enabled the offensive service to see what would happen... Immediately after enabling the NIC and this ____ service, the "Unidentified Network" returned...stopped it, disabled it, disable/enable NIC...Internet back up and running and no "Unidentified Network." (woot - woot!) Hope that helps! I haven't had issues since...

Just built new PC: Asus P6T SE mobo; i7 920 cpu; 6GB 1600MHz triple channel ram; 4x500GB HDDS in raid 1+0 Installed W7-64bit and a few programs. Then I moved the PC from one room to another on the same LAN. Restarted and now I cannot connect to the LAN in any way. The CAT6 connector works, indicating green when I plug into t gig router and orange when I connect to a 10/100 router. I turned off all firewall, but nothing helps. Reinstalled LAN driver - nothing. So I am reinstalling W7 now! :(- paul W7 on: Asus P6T SE i920 | Intel Bad Axe Core 2 Duo | Lenovo X200T

Hello. I am having the same problem but after running services.msc and trying to find Bonjour or the ID Id_String2.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B87 9762 they are not in the services list. On my desktop computer my network is just displaying disconnected and a network cable is unplugged. Sometimes it does say its connected to an unidentified public network. But on my laptop the internet is working fine.

This is a different symptom. The services to stop is just for the unidentified network that causes no internet connection (and that fix worked great btw thank you much to Kitty for the post). It sounds like you are having issues with your NIC, Cable, or port on the modem/router. Start with the basics:get a new patch cable, remove/reinstall the NIC or update the drivers, (I'd probably do both), and connect to a different ethernet port on the modem/router.If that doesn't work you've narrowed things own to the NIC as the likely problem. Cable diconnected is very rarely a software issue.

I had the same problem after loading Windows 7, with my network adapter. You were right on with the rcommendation of BonJour Services. Once I went in and diabled the service on my next boot my computer connected without diable and enable. ThanksKen

Krull Kitty, you are a lifesaver. I have been searching forums for past 3 days looking for a solution to this problem. I found your tip this morning about disabling the following service: ##Id_String2.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B87 9762 ## Since disabling the service, I've shut the PC down several times and network connection comes up immediately now. Before, I would have to disable and enable my network card, sometimes several times to get my internet connection back. This happened every time I shut down or restarted. Today I have been out most of the day and normally after leaving the PC idle for so long, I would have to reset my router, then disable and enable my network card. It was driving me crazy. Everything is working fine now. Thank you so much, you've saved my sanity.

Hey guys My brand new computer was working fine for a bout a week, but then suddenly the internet was disabled. I checked the NIC card and that was fine. I also looked for the "##Id_String2.6844f930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B87 9762 ##" but didn't find it in the Services list... only "##Id_String1...wutever" so I'm assuming that's not the problem. My other computer is connecting fine, and when I changed the Ethernet cable with the one connected to the working computer, the internet is still not working. My computer is definitely reading the network, and its showing that the network is connected, but for some reason its only the internet that's not. Also, I just tried release/renew for the IP, but after I released it, it won't let me renew it. I'm about to have a mental breakdown here. I did notice that the NIC "Network Address" was set on "Not Present" but I'm not entirely sure what to do with that, so for now I just left it alone. Could that be the problem? if not are there any other solutions?

THANK YOU, all of you. I got a new desktop computer about a month ago with Win 7 already loaded on it. Two nights ago, the Internet stopped working as I was trying to add the new wireless router. A Time Warner tech came over and had no idea how to help me, but he really tried. He could get on the Internet with his Vista laptop, but not help me. He said I had a bad computer. I spent 3 hours on the phone with a very nice man from HP who was essentially blaming Time Warner Cable and the nice lady at Time Warner Cable was blaming HP. Ten hours of phone calls later (I'm so not kidding), I still didn't have Internet and was looking at a complete reinstall. I didn't want to do that! I had asked both parties if Win 7 could be the issue and no, they said the system was fine. I just had a feeling, so I started poking around on the computer without changing anything. I am not very computer savvy, but I know the basics.I noted the error (Unable to configure IP) and a 651 error, and Googled it with my laptop (again, the Vista worked, the Win did not.) I came here, disabled the card, reinabled it and now, it works. Tomorrow, I am going in and trying the steps listed above. I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate you posting your fixes here, because you sure don't have to. Thank you again!

That sounds ALL too familiar! I am glad that those of you with the itunes/quicktime bonjour service have been able to figure this out, I really am because I know how frustrating that problem is.Our company has been testing the RTM of windows 7 enterprise and UNLESS we permit the computer accounts access to the internet you will be locked out of the internet for about 30 minutes. If you reboot guess what, you get to wait another 30 minutes. This happens with a clean install of the OS and NO OTHER software installed! Domain membership does not appear to be a factor. We have battled this in WIN7 for a while now and once I requested my pc to be placed in the internet access group, viola all is well. I do not want to give these rights to all 7500 PC's, nor should I have to. Long of the short is the problem just showed up on a WINXP SP3 system, with NO bonjuor service. In fact the PC is pretty clean. Once again adding it to the internet allowed group fixes it.Now we have to get a move on to fix this issue, we have tried the nic disable/re-enable trick with no luck. Also we are using Bluecoat proxy to grant internet access based on AD groups. We don't allow itunes/quicktime except for what we provide and that is a custom quicktime with no bonjour.I also just tested the theory of internet access group membership and disableing the nic and the group membership is the only thing that fixes it. :(Anyone have this issue as well, we can't be the only ones?

Robo and Beatnik, what environment types are you in? Home, a firewall/proxy controlled office with or without a domain? If you are behind a firewal you could try this onehttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistanetworking/thread/56f94039-5ce1-4380-b9dc-1c541f2235f9Make sure to look at the post by Nicholas Li. It references a url that may need to be ported through proxy/firewalls. This is what we did to resolve a issue with XP not getting out to the internet recently as well. Everything except the internet worked and then after about 30 minutes the internet started working again and allowing the url mentioned solved the problem for both XP and WIN7.home network you could try this one.http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7network/thread/96d68401-23d3-476d-9dd9-0f64e7798ca9One thing to check in either instance is the status of network discovery in WIN7. Once I turned it on I was able to access all my resouces.

I had networking problems as well. 3 computers running Windows 7. 2 had Adobe CS3 installed which brings with is a piece of software called Bonjour. These two computers had no end of networking problems. 1 was a desktop connected to the router and the other was a laptop connecting via WiFi. Third computer didn't have CS3 and didn't have any trouble at all. In trying to find a solution (nothing seemed to work), I came across the solution shown below in a different thread and thought I would share it. I installed the upgrade for Bonjour (it's listed as Windows Vista 64 software) and all of my network problems cleared up. My thanks to "PDX Prod Mgr". Brilliant! " PDX Prod Mgr I had the same problem when I rebuilt my Windows 7 system. I had CS3 installed on my system, it installs an old version of bonjour. If you inspect your program files\bonjour directory, see if you have an EXE and DLL file dated 2006. Jump over to apple's website and search for windows bonjour. I found the newer download here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/Bonjour_for_Windows Download and install this (you don't have to uninstall the old Bonjour) and reboot. This fixed my install and I no longer have the network error you describe. If you look at that folder now, you will have the newer DLLs (and some other gunk.) "

Try preventing your computer from automatically turning off the NIC to save power: Start > Run : ncpa.cpl > right-click the troublesome interface > properties > configure button > 'power management' tab >> un-check the option 'allow computer to turn off this device to save power' .--- ian

New spin on the networking issue. My wife's 7 home premium machine will lose the internet but not the home group network and my son's side on the second computer now is on lan 3 and has internet but no network printing because his is public and not the home group. My side is still in the home group and hasn't got an issue. My maiden aunt's patoot! What in the world is going on? If I disable the lan connection on his side, I can't find the home group; if I try to establish a second network connection, I can't find the home group .... this has become a glorious excersize in self abuse. Oh, and bonjour isn't listed in seervices.

I'm not a computer expert. I'm just a plain accountant but this might help. :) Here's what I did after stopping Bonjour (because it did not work) 1- Open Network and Sharing Center 2- Go to "Change Adapter Settings" 3- Click "Local Area Connection" 4- On "Sharing" tab, make sure to check both of the following a) Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet Connection b) Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection Maybe it may sound very simple to those who are experts. But this is what I did to fix the problem. Good luck!! :)
