Windowsw 7 SP1 problem
If the problem is really that driver and that's a moderate sized "if", where did you get that driver? I'm asking towards getting you to install that one to see what happens. ReneeNot a C officianado

Installed SP1 today and everything went fine until the reboot. Once at the desktop it was apparent something was wrong with my display. My laptop has a Radeon 9600. Upon checking Device Manager I found an exclamation mark at my display driver with the message that windows had stopped the driver due to a detected problem. Tried a couple other drivers, including the one that comes with Windows 7. Nothing helped. Restored back to pre-SP1 and my video works great again.

Renee, I agree with you on the big IF for the video driver being the problem. Driver is from ATI version 8.5. Thought I would ask for help since this issue really doesn't make any sense. Why would a driver work fine before applying SP1 and then not work after SP1 is installed? Weird thing is, when I tried other drivers, they didn't show any signs of being installed, even though the installer said it installed. Banmenau, Thanks for the link. I will check my AGP aperture size to ensure it is 128.

" Why would a driver work fine before applying SP1 and then not work after SP1 is installed?" Because the Exec has changed? Renee

Well, I tried all the suggestions with no success. AGP aperture size is now at 256. I can manually switch drivers but they all show a problem except for the Standard VGA driver. It is interesting that AMD says the Radeon 9600 is not compatible with Windows 7 yet Microsoft lists it as compatible on their site. It works great for me as long as I don't install SP1. I am open to any other suggestions as it has me baffled.

Anyone else have any ideas? Is it a problem with Windows 7? I noticed in forums that lots of people had problems just getting this card to work in Windows 7

Hi, For this issue, this would be caused by the device driver, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer for driver applies to windows 7 Service Pack 1. Just my luck, the manufacturer is no longer in business. I do find it interesting that any driver works without SP1. Guess I will just do without SP1 as this is not my main computer. Many thanks for the help.
