Windows won't update, constantly fails
I'd also like to know how to access Configsys.  My  main problem is that updates won't update.  It works fine but when the download and load is almost done it says it couldn't complete the updates and all are being uninstalled (not exact words) How can I fix this?

Hi,

We hope your issue has been resolved, if you've found solution by yourself. We would appreciate it if you could share with us and we will mark it as answer.

It would be great, if you can answer to questions arnavsharma's reply for a better understanding of the issue that you are facing.

To check the update history, follow these steps:

a)       Press Windows Logo + W and type Updates in the search box.

b)       Click on View update history on the left pane.

This will show you the name of the updates that were installed successfully and the updates that had failed to install.

Lets first try running the Windows Update Troubleshooter and check if that resolves the issue.

Method 1: Windows Update Troubleshooter

This troubleshooter is an automated Windows 8 inbuilt tool which finds and fixes the common issues with the Windows Updates. Perform these steps to run this tool and check if that helps.

a)       Press Windows Logo + W keys from the keyboard.

b)       Type Troubleshooting in the search bar and press Enter.

c)       In the Troubleshooting window, click on View All on the left pane.

d)       Click on Windows Update.

e)       Click on Advanced and then click on Run as Administrator.

f)        Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

After running the troubleshooter, you may try running the Windows Update and check if that helps. If the issue persists, then try the next method.

Method 2: Manually Reset Windows Update Components

a) Press Windows Logo + X keys on the keyboard and then select Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.

b) Copy the following commands and then right click in the Command Prompt window and select Paste to paste all these commands in it.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

c) Please wait for the process to complete and then press Enter.

d) Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it.

Now run the Windows Update and check if these steps resolve the issue. If not resolved, then try the next method.

Method 3: Perform a Clean Boot and find out which application/service is causing this issue.

A clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts and to determine what is causing the problem. Perform a clean boot on the computer by following the steps given in the link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Follow all the steps given in this link and then try running the Windows Updates and then figure out the application or service causing this issue.
