Windows won't start
I have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. I have encountered this problem a few times before but didn't think much of it. When turning on windows the bios starts and works perfectly. The screen says starting windows and the windows logo (that normally starts shortly after doesn't) never comes up. No matter how long I wait, windows never starts. My currenctly solution is having to turn of my laptop manually (holding the power button for 3 seconds) and then turning it on (so far it has always worked after doing this). I have thought it could be a certain program but the first time I had this problem was a week after I installed a fresh copy of windows (just had programs that never caused the problem before the clean install). I am really intrested to figuring out what could possible be wrong any help is greatly appreciated.

What laptop is this? Has the bios been updated to the latest version? Have you gone into SAFE mode yet and came back out and boot up normally? Are all the device drivers from the OEM, Windows 7 compliant?MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

Yes bios and everything has the latest drivers. As I said before, I had this problem even before I installed some of the drivers. My laptop is a Sager NP 9280 (excaly identacial to the Clevo D900F, it uses same components and chassy). No I have never tried going into safe mode because I never know when it won't starts. It doesn't happen to frequently, and I'm planing on re-installing windows. I was just asking out of curiousity. All the drivers and devices are windows 7 compliant and the drivers are form the manufacturer's website.

Hi, You may run the Startup Repair when the issue reoccurs. In addition, I would like to suggest you perform a System Restore and check the hard disk. If the issue persists, I also would like to suggest you temporarily uninstall the antivirus program to check the issue. Whats the result? Arthur Li - MSFT

Ok I tried all your suggestions Arthur_Li and this is what I got.WhenI tried the "check the hard disk", and I got the following message: "Windows can't check the disk while it's in useDo you want to check the hard disk errors the next time you start your computer?"I did a full system restart then tried to run it as soon as windows started and I got the same message. The third time I clicked the "Schedule disk check" and resterted my computer. After restarting I was presented with the following message:"Checkung file system on C:The type of the file system is NTFS.A disk check has been scheduledTo skip disck checking press any key within (at this time a count down started from 10 and got stuck at 1) 1 second(s)"I waited for 15 minutes and nothing happened so I turned of my computer manually and restarted I saw the same message and this time i tried to skip and it didn't work. Again i turned of my computer manually and turned it on and still didn't work. Finally I put in the windows CD and tried the "Startup Repair" and it didn't find any problems. After restarting, I decided to do a "System Restore" and that is how I finally was able to access my computer again. As for the anti-virus I'm using AVG (free edition) but I have never had a problem with it from windows XP, Vista, and even 7.

and how old is this machine - specifically the hard drive as I'm beginning to think you've got problems with it. Does your model come with diagnostic CD so you can check the drive for errors. Also now that you've got it up and running again, try check the hard diskonce more. MCSE, MCSA, MCDST
