Windows update service in Win7 doesnt work
HI, im not able to update my Win7 Ultimate 64bit version which i have downloaded through my MSDN subscription account. I have succesfully installed it and was even able to do some updates on the very first day of installation, but since the next day I have been having issues when updating. What happens is: - i get an information that there are some updates available so I go to Windows Update service and click to download and install them - since some of the updates require restart of the computer I usually click "restart" when download and istallation if finished - this is where it gets wierd: on restart when win7 is shutting down it initializes some of the updates. Sometimes is works fine and computer restarts without any issues but sometimes it just stops and does nothing (this blue circle stops rolling) and Windows just freezes. I usually have to restart manually or switch the notebook off because it does nothing even after 20 min - if i restart and nothing of what i mentioned in previous point happens then the problem starts right before Im allowed to log in. Just before log in Windows is trying to configurate the updates and it stops on 15% everytime i have tried it. It just freezes and the only option for me is to restart again (usually i go to safe mode where Windows gets back to the restore point and then it works fine but without the latest updates) - i have tried to do the updates one by one and I was able to do couple of them. But when i selected 2-5 updates at once then it froze again :(. I am not willing to do the updates one by one and I have no quarantee that it will work eventually for all of the updates because i have tried only couple of them Can you pls help me? Thank you I have been trying to find out some help through google but nothing useful also on MSDN forums but again no luck :( Details about my computer: ASUS F3T AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 1.6GHz 2GB RAM

Have you tried a clean install and see if that works? Sounds like your setup is badly corrupted. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! IT/Developer, Windows/Linux/Mainframe I also am a true vegan and I am very good with economics and I used to play chess at 2400++

Please try the steps below to resolve your issue. SUGGESTION 1: ============== We have found that this issue can occur if any third party software is conflicting with the Windows Update Site. If you have Norton, McAfee or other Antivirus or firewall software installed on your system, the third party software can conflict with the Windows Update Site hence I would sincerely request you to kindly disable these software while accessing the site, this should resolve the issue for you. Please remember to enable the Windows XP firewall on your internet connection (if it is not already) before going online in case of Virus problems. If the issue persists, let's go to the second suggestion. SUGGESTION 2: ============== This issue can be caused if one or more of the following services are disabled or unavailable. We will therefore RESET Background Intelligent Transfer Service and the Automatic Updates service. For this, please follow the steps given below: 1. Click Start --> select Run. In the Run box, type services.msc Click OK For More Infromation and help related to windows 7 update error

Also you may reset the SoftwareDistribution folder. You may temporary disable the antivirus (Karspersky in your case) and firewall. Also please be assure that your router firewall do not block Windows Update. If the issue still occurs, please reset the SoftwareDistribution folder. 1. Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search box, right-click services.msc, and then click Run as administrator. 2. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Windows Update, and then click Stop. 3. Minimize the Services (local) window. 4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them. Note By default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the drive:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. In this location, drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed. 5. Make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then maximize the Services (local) window. 6. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Windows Update, and then click Start. 7. Restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. ”
