I have no idea if this is the right forum to ask this in as I can't find anything that remotely matches what I want to talk about... however the service in mind wuauserv is kinda security related as it patches the machines etc...I was going to alternately file it under applications as a second guess because I suppose you might partially consider wuauserv or windows update as an application. Who knows.Anyway, what I want to know is this...When the machine updates and I'm prompted for action, in the past I've done an "sc stop wuauserv" and it blatts the service to a stopped state, annoying prompt dissapears and it stops harrassing me. After a certain period of time however, could be up to 12 hours or so, the service will magically restart itself and i'll start getting prompts again.As an administrator a button along the lines of "F*** off an stop hassling me" would be a great start but my actual question here is what causes the service to restart itself after I've stopped it? Is it as simple as local group policy refreshing and it starting the service back up as it set to automatic, or has there been something programmed into another service/the core system to restart the service if it is found stopped and a reboot is pending?I must admit I've not tried setting it to manual in services.msc and waited to see if that makes a difference.Just annoying that Vista seems to think it knows best even when I've implicitly told it not to do something.CheersPaul

This will not interfere with your work and you will not see any popup prompts. You can even shutdown or restart without any annoying prompts.When you do get a break andhave the time for the updates,you can simply click that icon and select to Install the Updates.Hope this helps.
