Temporarily deactivating a antivirus/firewall solution often leaves their services running in the background. There are a lot of issues with these applications in the current build and some have reported that they had to uninstall the program to get rid of the errors.

Hi, Are you using a proxy? If so, could you please bypass it to test the issue? In addition, if you are using Windows Update, please try to switch to Microsoft Update. If you are using Microsoft Update, please try to switch to Windows Update to test issue. Hope it helps.

It's the code that the Windows Update Agent logs when it gets No Response back from the target server. The majoritiy of the time this is traceable to some defect in the networking infrastructure. As particularly relates to attempts to connect to WU/MU, rather than WSUS, there is a somewhat shorter list of possible culprits. They include: an incorrect or missing WinHTTP proxy configuration, an egress filter on a firewall, or non-functioning DNS services, preventing the WUA from resolving the internal "known" URLs of Microsoft Update. The second code is generally caused because the system clock of the client machine doesn't match the system clock of the destination machine. Joining the machine to a domain and permitting synchronization of the system clock will generally resolve this issue. In the event of a non-domain system, it would require manual correction of the system clock, or reconfiguration of the Windows Time Service to successfully connect to a functioning time server.Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCITP(x2), MCTS(x5), MCP(x7), MCBMSP Principal/CTO, Onsite Technology Solutions, Houston, Texas Microsoft MVP - Software Distribution (2005-2009)
