Windows update error 0x80072efd
Hi guys, now i am having problems with windows update and this is not a dns issue but a signature problem as i read in the .WER files and surprisinly forgot to put the txt file in this account to post here the details,so now i have to go back to my admin user and paste in this user ...anyways ...meanwhile id like to share when this started,i had to do some changesin my system and the most important things i changed was : i removed windows update servers from NAP trusted lists, and also changed the minmum sessionrequerement for NLTM SSPto NTLMv2 only and unchecked the 128bit encryption...so my guess is what if i switch it back will that work? cause i already tried without restarting the system and restarting the system but no success,so i think i might have to wait one day and try it again?any help is greatly appreciated!Regards,RR

Don't know if this will help you, but I had a win7 RC test update break the update system with error code 80072F76. I fixed it by adding http://update.microsoft.com and http://microsoft.com to IE's trusted sites list. (I suppose you know how to add sites to the trusted sites list...) Edit: I just found the link to the KB thing from MS that talks about my problem I had with the windows update, here it is: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=836941 Hello! Hi JoelBx,thanks for replying, just a question are you Robinson Zhang?ok i read the article and the only thing i tried was to disable firewall and then updates worked!but it looks like some major problem cause i detected it was the firewall blocking it,and when i restore the firewall rules to defaults ,it perfectly updates but when i importrules from my other pc which is equivalent as mine ,same policies it bugs again and windows update is not possible so i remember i edited the windows firewall manually from windows registry in earlier time(was changing the default gateway settings in the shared access reg key) i figure that its where the problem lives!so i think when i import policies somehow imports it bugged!!!is there anyway to restore firewall completely?like fix it deeply?thanks in advance,RR

Hi JoelBx, thanks for replying, just a question are you Robinson Zhang? ok i read the article and the only thing i tried was to disable firewall and then updates worked! Boy the 2nd time in a week where someone thought I was someone else. I love it! Wish I could be a forum mod. No I'm not Robinson Zhang. If you look through the forums, you'll notice that Robinson gives generic answers in posts, I don't. As far as the firewall goes, don't know what to tell you, as I have never played with it...Hello! LOl sorry i confused u with other,i just asked cause u said u have edited ur post above and i just looked up and saw Robinson reply which i never seen before i tot u were playing normal user when u were actually a mod!i feel now sorta disaponted and ignored/left alone, dunno if things gone wrong here i just have this feeling but i prefer to think that Paranoia HAZ ME!isnt there any command line to reset firewall API settings to default no just policies rules?anyways will be expecting some substantial help here(not depreciating ur post i just want to enphasize how bad i need a lil help) otherwise i might have to have a boring/painful task to create all the zillions rules again!Regards,RR

There probably is some command somewhere, I just don't know it. If I had access to a mod account, I would use that and not a normal user since mods can edit, make answers, and lots more that normal users can't. Don't blame ya with you thinking I was pretending to be normal when I was a mod, Im just a normal user here.Hello! Thought provoker: If I was Robinson Zhang, why would I do this in this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproperf/thread/08a7a195-4f3e-4854-81b1-b0174b297531#a1f8cffb-948b-4299-928e-5044c7fda777 Just food for thought... Regards, RR Have you undone the changes you've listed above and then rebooted to see if the error is resolved ? If yes, then check to see if a proxy server is the issue. From KB836941 , although no steps for Vista and Windows 7 are listed: Advanced Method B: Remove the proxy server entry from the WinHTTP proxy configuration 1. Open an Elevated Command Prompt ( Click the Start orb, type in cmd , under Programs right click cmd.exe and choose 'Run as administrator', follow the UAC prompts to allow the Command Prompt to run Elevated ) 2. Now type in the following and press Enter netsh winhttp show proxy 3. The above will display the current proxy settings of Windows Update. If the following shows, there is no proxy issue occurring Current WinHttp Proxy settings: Direct access <no proxy settings> 4. If a proxy or proxies are showing, reset Windows Update to Direct access by typing in the following and then press Enter netsh winhttp reset proxy 5. Close the Command Prompt window by typing exit , press Enter 6. See if the system can update now MowGreen MVP Data Center Management - Update Services Consumer Security

Hi all, thanks alot for ur efforts!!!thanks MowGreen!i already found tthe root of the problem and i had to re-create all my firewall policies which was kind of annoying but the good side is that now i better organized it...the problem found is at least weird ,i have to allow WMI traffic for outbound rules and also ISCSI as well, aint that weird?anyways i scoped it and restricted to better protect it.Again appreciate every little reply here!!!!Kind regards,RR
