Hello, First, please understand that there is no updated certificate for windows update can be downloaded from Windows Update. Updates from Windows Update are provided by Microsoft and third party manufacturers. Microsoft tests updates in various environments before they are published. Therefore, it is unnecessary to install a certificate to check the updates. In the meantime, I would like to confirm if you would like to change the Windows Update settings to pick the update you would like to install? If so, please refer to the steps to change the Windows Update settings: 1. Log on to the user with Administrator privilege. 2. Go to Start, type Windows Update in the Search box. 3. Click Change settings on the left pane. 4. Choose Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them in the pull down list. 5. Tick the box under Recommended Updates, Microsoft Updates and Software notifications. 6. Click OK. After changing the settings, a notification will pop up if new update is available and you can choose the update to install. I am curious about the way to prevent updates with untrusted certificates. From which setting would you like to achieve this feature? If you want to install certifications for Microsoft released Windows Updates, the following article can be referred. You cannot install some updates or programs http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798 Please see Method 7: Temporarily turn off Trusted Publishers Lockdown and install the appropriate certificates to your trusted publishers certificate store. Please note that the steps are for Windows XP. Trusted Publishers Lockdown does not work with IE8, and the updates cannot be extracted with that method. Additionally, catalog is not present in the Windows update packages. The catalog will be downloaded when you install updates. Therefore, in Windows 7, if you need to install certificates for Microsoft released Windows updates, we need to obtain the certificates from an update that was already installed. Please: 1. Run Windows Update and install a system update. 2. Open the folder C:\Windows\System32\catroot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE} 3. Right-click on the catalog file of the installed update. 4. Follow the step 3 to step 9 in the Method 7 in the article KB822798. The certificate for Microsoft update will be installed into Trusted Publishers. Please note that driver updates from Windows Update have different certificates. The certificates are from the driver manufacturers. Hope the above information addressed your concern. Thanks, Linda
