Windows unknown screensaver conundrum
Yesterday, my Windows 7 Pro resumed from hibernation, and entered into a screensaver which was a "wall" of images from a Pictures folder. These were in monochrome, and the screensaver slowly scanned the wall and randomly zoomed in on one image and changed it to colour, then resumed the scan. This would be a fantastic screensaver. However, I have screensaver turned off! I tried Photos but it is nothing like the effect described above. I have almost no third party software and certainly none I would think would produce this effect. Is anyone familiar with this "screensaver", and can tell me how to enable it?Thanks!

Are you positive screen saver is turned off, as it will do that if you select photos or similar, but in your case, it sounds like something else might be going no or something got installed. run msconfig and see what's in startup. Here's a good tutorial by HP on it http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01862006&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3925681MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi greenheart, Please confirm if you have installed Windows Live Photo Gallery or any other similar software installed. If so, please open it and check the screen saver settings by clicking File on the menu bar. Click Settings and see if the settings under "Use this theme" meet your needs. In the meantime, please also right click on the Desktop -> Personalize -> Screen Saver. Please let us know the screen savers names listed and we will help to check which screen saver is the one you need. Hope this helps. Regards, Linda

Thanks, both for your replies.I have no Windows live stuff - have no need for it at all. Nothing obvious in msconfig.I have no unusual screen savers - just the six that came standard. It is certainly not Photos.I did find that the pictures that were showing were also those listed in WMP - it must have done a search as they are not in my Pictures folder, in fact not even on the same HDD as Win7, so maybe it's a function of WMP that is not obvious.I do have iTunes/QT, but I doubt that could be it.I will see if I can get it going again and try to RDP in and look at what process are running (assuming the process continues...)Cheers,G H

Thanks for your reply.I found that it was an (undocumented?) feature of Windows Media Centre - if WMC is in a menu or otherwise not showing TV or Video, etc, after 5 minutes the "screensaver" starts.I guess the next question is how to make use of it as a default screensaver...regards,greenhart

Glad to hear the screen saver is found. J Unfortunately, the Windows Media Center screen saver cannot be set as the system screen saver. I guess the only workaround is to open Windows Media Center at the background and set the time for the screensaver. You can change the screen saver time in the Windows Media Center by clicking Settings -> Pictures -> Slide Show Screen Saver -> change the time for "Start screen saver after" -> click Save. Also, you can search the internet and see if there is any similar third party screen saver.
