Windows search on Network drives with offline files enabled yields no results
I've found little on this issue, but my director is currently experiencing the following problem. We map a user drive "U:" on Windows Server 2008. Director is using Windows 7 Enterprise RTM He can search and find documents normally. For example "prices" If he enables "make available offline", documents on "U:" no longer appear, despite being both in the offline cache and on the server. "prices" will yield no results. If offline files are disabled, searching behavior returns to normal.

Do you redirect the My Documents folder, or just create a map drive in Windows 7 and there are several documents in the drive? If the whole user profile is redirected, you may check the real location of the My Documents folder from the Windows 7 computer when the issue occurs. After you redirect user profile folders such as My Documents, My Videos or My Music, they are automatically set to be offline.Arthur Xie - MSFT

No we're not redirecting my documents, we simply map the drive using Group Policy preferences. He is online connected to the live server when the problem occurs. He did not test whether searching works when he is in offline mode.

Do you mean that the computer connects to the network via the Live Server? Does the issue occur if the Windows 7 computer is in the intranet? It works well in our computers. You may sync after set it as available offline, and wait for seconds. Then test the issue.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Sorry no - I mean he is not marked as "work offline", rather he is in online mode and communicating with the current copy of the files on the server.
