Hi, Windows 7 Indexer does not index .VB, .VBProj and .snippet files, even though: 1. The checkboxes in Indexing Options, Advanced, File Types, are checked 2. The folders where the .VB, .VBProj and .snippet files reside are indexed: for example, *.txt, *.docx, *.xlsx files in the same folders are indexed. 3. Copies of the .VB, .VBProj and .snippet files, in the same folders as the .VB, .VBProj and .snippet files, but with txt as extension, are indexed. 4. All the files are on the C: drive of the computer. 5. Google Desktop indexes these .VB, .VBProj and .snippet files. 6. Microsoft's MCT / MCITP / MCTS / MCSA / C recommended: Try to Rebuild The Index Options Start---> Index Options ---> Advanced ---> Index Setting ---> Troubleshooting ---> Rebuild ---> ok 7. Following the instructions in 6. above did not solve the problem: Windows 7 indexer re-indexed 125,148 files, but no *.vb. *.vbproj or *.snippet file. Again, Google desktop indexed *.vb, *.vbproj and *.snippet files. Windows 7 indexed copies of the *.vb, *.vbproj and *.snippet files, made in the same folders, but given *.txt as extension. I would appreciate any pointers/solution. Thanks!

Hello Rony, A. Sorry to start with "low end test", namely the check the scope of indexing: Start -> index Look if drives that contain the searched extension are included. B. Hi, The check boxes for the .vb, .vbproj and .snippet extensions are checked under [Indexer Options], Advanced, File Types. The problem is that these Microsoft .vb, .vbproj and .snippet are not indexed (!). One simple silly solution which I am currently using is to write a VB program that makes a copy of each .vb, .vbproj and .snippet and gives it .txt as extension, in which case the *.txt files are indexed, so I can index .vb, .vbproj and .snippet files by copying them. Windows 7 is supposed to index them. Any idea/pointers would be appreaciated. Thanks!

Hi, Neither using Safe Mode nor creating a new profile and using Indexer under safe mode/the new profile, worked: Windows 7 does not index .vb, .vbproj and .snippet even though it is set up to index these files. Thanks for any pointers/ideas!

Hi Janaki, Milos, Vincent, Thanks for the above advices. I unchecked vb, vbproj and snippet checkboxes in Indexer Options, Advanced, File Types.I rebooted my PC.I rebuilt the Windows 7 Index. Number of items indexed: 115,260. I rechecked vb, vbproj and snippet checkboxes in Indexer Options, Advanced, File Types. When re-indexing finished, the number of files indexed was 122,722, i.e., 122,722-115,820=6,902 extra files were indexed.There are 4,284 vb, vbproj and snippet files in indexed folders. I do not know what the other 6,902-4,284=2,618 files that were indexed are.Windows 7 might be indexing vb, vbproj and snippet, but still does not show any such file in search results. So my Windows 7 does not index vb, vbproj or snippet files problem is still unsolved. Any ideas/pointers? Thanks! Ronny Schaul

Hi, I would like to propose the following suggestions to test the issue: 1. Uninstall and reinstall Windows Search Feature. 1) Click Start and type: features in the Start Search box. 2) Click on Turn Windows Features on or off and open it. 3) Uncheck the box in front of Windows Search. 4) Restart the machine. 5) Delete the folder: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search. 6) Then repeat step 1) and 2). 7) Re-check the box in front of Windows Search. 8) Restart the machine again. If the issue persists, please continue the step. 2. Modify the following registry and change the value data. 1) Press Win + R keys to open a run box. 2) Type: regedit and press Enter. 3) Navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSearch\SetupCompletedSuccessfuly 4) Change the value to 0. 5) Restart the machine. In Indexer Option, Advanced, File Types, for the vb extension, the "Index Properties only" radio button in the "How should this file be indexed" group was selected. Checking the "Index Properties and File Contents" instead solved the problem. Sorry for the trouble and thanks a lot for your help! Ronny Schaul
