Windows mail outgoing smtp authentication problem
Using Windows Live mail with outgoing mail server configured to use authentication it always prompt me for username/password although credentials are valid. With same settings on WindowsXP (Outlook Express) all is working without problems, so there must be some kind of problem on Windows7 rejecting mail server authentication. Have already turned off firewall, AV programs still no success. Any ideas?

Can you check mail if you supply the user / password??? We use live mail on over 100 PC's without this issue. Have you spoken to the provider? delete the profile and redo it and test.

Yes it supports. We also tried with Outlook 2007 - the problem remains. But this only happens on one Win7 computer, all other are working without problems.

Dit you check in your outlook the proxy settings for exchange? Is it set to basic verification? Try setting it to NTLM.Don't forget about Alt+Esc!

What A/V are you using?? Some Like norton will "take over" the email and this can cause issues.

There are no proxy settings, this is just a basic SMTP server running on Win2003 IIS, also no AV and firewall are installed/enabled on client computer. I'm thinking that there must be problem with Windows7, becasue on WinXP all is working.

Hi, I had the same issue but with Exchange, somehow with Windows 7 SMTP authentication did not work. I got it working by selecting 'Auto' for 'Use the following type of encrypted connection' under the Advanced Tab, More Settings. Hope this helpa ... :) Regards, Osama
