Windows installer has stopped working
I've been running Windows 7 for about a week now. Over the weekend I tried to install the F# CTP and .NET Services for Azure on my machine and got the following error: Windows installer has stopped workingWindows is collecting more information about the problem. This might take several minutes... It doesn't seem to matter which app I try to install - I get the same error. For example, I also recieved the same error when I tried to install the Tortoise SVN client this morning.Anyone else encounter this or have suggestions for a fix? I'm going to try restoring to an earlier version to see if that clears it up. I tried rebooting but that didn't change anything."We're all in it together, kid." - Harry Tuttle, Heating Engineer

It could be coincidence that I just tried to install 3 apps that are incompatible with Windows 7. Seems odd that I'd bat 0 for 3 though all in a row.I was going to try reverting to an erlier version, but my only restore point was created today (I've only been running it a week). So that option is out."We're all in it together, kid." - Harry Tuttle, Heating Engineer

Random crashing of explorer and msiexec.exe when trying to start Windows Update or install anything that uses an MSI based installer?Read http://chris123nt.com/2009/01/18/sqm-client-causing-crashing-in-windows-7/I had the same thing, every time I tried to manually look for updates explorer would crash. The workaround in that article works!Sunshine

"We're all in it together, kid." - Harry Tuttle, Heating Engineer I initially misunderstood the issue this fixed. It was related to my issue. When I tried the fix listed in Sunshine's link, it seems to have resolved the issue."We're all in it together, kid." - Harry Tuttle, Heating Engineer
