Windows home premium 64bit: Connecting to a Linux / NAS server, using LM / NTLM
I got problems to connect my brandnew WIN Home Premium 64bit to a Linux Samba server - running Samba 2.2. I understand i need secpol.msc for changing my policys and the windows home version do not have this tool. (Poor) But secpol is a GUI for the registry only - so I updated my registry manually. I added the following registry key LmCompatibilityLevel as REG_DWORD 1 or 2 inside Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa. Additionally i tryed the NoLMHash with the values 0 or 1 But nothing worked. Maybe there is another solution for connecting? Any ideas or answers? Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your quick help! But this was what I did. I added the key to the registry Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel as DWORD with 1. This combination still fails. I am afraid there must be another problem. You can refer the current registry screenshot AFTER the changing with this link: http://cid-329f5285c9e05b83.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Album1/registry%20after%20change.jpg (I am sorry - but I did not found a way to put this picture here directly). Maybe there are more ideas?

Hi, Can other Windows machine access the Linux Samba server successfully? At this stage, I suggest you remove the LmCompatibilityLevel and then recreate it via above link. Also, please temporarily turn off firewall on the machine. If the issue persists, I suggest you refer to the following article to configure network on Samba. Thanks again. I guess I found a solution: As I said above I put the registry key for LmCompatibilityLevel inside the registry - but my system with WIN 7 Home Premium 64bit is still not available to connect a running Samba server using the Windows network environment function . Login with username and password gives an error. (All the other Win XP clients can connect the Samba server.) BUT: It is possible to connect the samba server directly with using net use and a assigned path specification, e.g. with the cmd file below: net use u: /del net use v: /del REM pause net use REM pause net use /persistent:yes net use u: \\xxx4\mydocs pw /user:user1 net use v: \\xxx4\public pw /user:user1 pause (where xxx4 is the samba server, pw = password and user1 = user). At the end i got the path \mydocs at drive U: and \public at drive V: This works pretty well. Maybe this can help for other ones with similar problems. Greetings and thanks for you help.
