Windows hangs on start up
After hitting power button and after the black screen of widows xp pro , a blue screen appears with the words "Windows is starting up..." and it just sits there doing nothing. I hit power button again to turn off computer and then push it again to start up and sometimes it will start normally or it will hang on the blue screen with the words "Windows is starting up..." again. What is up?1 person needs an answerI do too

The symptoms you describe are usually caused by a failing power supply. Test by swapping out the power supply for a known-working one. If that solves the problem, discard the original power supply.Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

I don't think it is the power supply, when it does actually start it will work fine for hours. When it finally will start normally, the first thing that happens is the blue screen described above will flash for a milli second then I get a "Logon to windows" logon screen, like for a network. The logon screen immediately has a logon message box the says: "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case." I will click the "OK" button and then I am switched to a different login screen where I get to pick a user and login to windows. After I type in my password windows opens up and will work normally. I think the problem is the computer gets confused on start up because it is looking to logon to a network or something like that. I shouldn't be getting the odd messages on startup, but I don't know how to fix it.

You are describing two different problems. If your first post is accurate, this is a hardware problem because Windows isn't even loaded at that point. If the machine were in my shop, the first thing I would do would be hardware testing. However, I must stress that you should not take what I have written as a definitive diagnosis. I cannot see or test your computer from here. I'm giving you my opinion about your computer based on my professional experience as a computer tech and on what you've written.Perhaps someone else will have an idea for you which you like better. I'm sorry I was unable to help you.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
