Windows goes to the setup screen intermittently after a restart - windows 7
Hi all, I am Ravikanth, I would like to bring to your notice an issue. In windows 7, intermittently, when restarted, the computer goes back to the initial setup screen where it asks for language, computer name (the one we see immediately after an OS install, after restarting and loading devices). This is rather intermittent. I have first suspected that there could have been a hardware flaw, so i ran diagnostics, they passed, then i ran chkdsk /r, even that passed. My suspicion of there being a hardware issue was further flawed when known good systems were malfunctioning the same way. One respite in this issue is that there is no data-loss. However i am unable to check what's happening as all event logs and all reports under reliability monitor are erased and the system starts a fresh (with all updates and software that users have installed at a later point). However, the settings are reset to defaults, hence we would need to change the settings back the way we defined them initially. It would not have bothered me if it were my PC. But at an enterprise it can be a serious concern. Thanks Ravi PS: I suspected that there could have been a problem with the image that we were using, hence i used a DVD to install on one system and tried it, after the updates were installed we used the computer for a considerable time and when we restarted, the issue was back.

sfc scannow => Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. Disc images=> they're good, we've tested them already....

Hi,intermittently According to your description, it seems that the sysprep command line is proformed intermittently. Please check whether there is any schedule task related to proforming this command. Also, you may change the name of sysprep, then monitor if this issue happens again.Juke Chou TechNet Community Support

this is also seen in computers which have been installed using a disc (for experimentation) ... issue with the sysprep can be, if not ruled out, set aside for certain time. I have, however, changed the name of the sysprep and checked, still the issue reoccurs.

Hi, It is very weird, I have never seen this before. Does this still happen when you install Windows 7 on a standalone computer via official installation disk? Note: please donot join it in domain. Juke Chou TechNet Community Support
