Windows for Professionals? Again
Wow My last post for this topic got deleted within an hour. I guess I touched a soar spot. Please leave this one, others may want to read it!! Ever since Windows XP I have suggested the same thing. I am an IT Professional and have worked with Windows since Windows 3. To me the biggest issue gets passed on from version to version, it annoys me and my fellow IT Professionals profoundly. It is as apparent as a big zit on your nose, yet goes un resolved with every release. Okay her it is. Microsoft calls the software; Windows Professional, but what does this mean? It doesn't meet my needs out of the box. Why not have two versions, one called Microsoft Basic or something like that, the other Microsoft for Professionals. See the difference. Let me explain it further. I Hate having to customize every version of Windows that I use. I spend an hour or so turning on file extensions, un-checking simple Network Sharing, removing the checks that hide system files and folders, and turning off all the nanny nags. I know how to setup networks I have a Domain server at home and at work, I know what installing an software is going to do to the operation system, I don't want to see a dialog box that asks me if I know what I am doing. If I screw up the PC I know how to reimage it or install it again from scratch. I know where my files are stored, please don't try and hide them like Apple does. This is why I use Windows instead of Apple in the first place because I know how to use DOS, and manage files and folders, and how to get rid of viruses. Please treat me like a Journeyman not an apprentice. Give me an operating system that you know I already know how to use. Why do you think Linux has been so popular, one big reason is because it gives the experienced users what they need and not all the Wizards and hidden nanny nags to try and protect you from yourself. This is the Windows that I want as an IT Professional. Windows 2000 gave us pretty much this. By Windows XP you were already trying too hard to make it look like an Apple. Don't be afraid to have a Professional Version of Windows. Go ahead and make the version for beginners, they need this version, I don't. Too me Widows 7 looks and feels just like Vista.Someone forgot what Windows Explorer looks like and how good it was to use. Why is that? Without some big changes to Windows 7 to make it more like Windows 2000, XP I will pass on it and stick with Windows XP. Since XP just works. I don't have to dig to find what I am after I don't see how all the changes in Windows Vista and 7 make the OS better than XP at all. In fact it is just the opposite it makes things worse. Thanks for listening. Red

Hi RedYour previous post was not deleted, it was moved to our Official Feedback Thread. Have Comments about Windows 7 RC? (Part 5 - Do not post questions in this thread) All of the posts in that thread are collected, periodically and sent directly to the Beta Team.Passing your comments on to The Windows 7 Beta Team is where they willhave the desireable effect since that team makes all of the final decisions about how Windows is designed. We try to move all of the threads thatcontain only suggestions and comments to that thread. Thanks for understanding. Thank you for your response, However It would be nice if the thread were still available for search and still associated with my login ID. I could no longer get to the thread by either means so at that point it may as well have been deleted.Red

I 100% agree. Supporting the OS has gotten so much tougher now that each screen can have 20 different looks to it. Every interface designer should be forced to walk their grandma through their interface after someone changes it's mode. Do you see a blue X? Ok, how about a icon that says this? No, ok how about on the left, an option to show blue x? No.. click the blue x part.. ok.. now do you see a blue x? Ok click that.. now.. what do you see?Fun.. thanks Microsoft.
