I have installed windows 8.1 RT on surface RT, afterwards my VPN connections don't connect and I think it's because of windows firewall, but windows firewall doesn't run, there is no name of firewall in the control panel. I just can find it in the search bar but nothing happens when I click on it. It seems I don't have access to firewall or firewall software doesn't exist.

How can I solve this problem?

Make sure your user account is a local account. You'll be able to find and use Windows Firewall just fine.

During installation of Win8.1 I had to use my Microsoft account. I couldn't find the option to create a local account. Just recently I found out Windows Firewall simply wouldn't start. Changed to Local Account, and now everything works. Maybe this will help you too.



From the desktop, toggle Charms > Settings, and hit Change PC Settings.
In the left pane, select Accounts, and at the top, under your name and e-mail address, hit Disconnect.
