Sounds like it doesn't have the correct fax devices setup. Try this, go to Tools, Fax Settings, Select Fax Device. Then make sure it has the correct modem/fax setup, and try the fax again. Another thing you can try is going to start, and typing in "services.msc", next look for the fax service. From here you want make sure that the startup type is set to automatic, and the service is started.
