Windows failed to boot after installing newest patches
I just installed the patches from Tuesday. After rebooting, an error screen came up. Trying to boot from that, just rebooted the machine. So I got the message I needed to use the install DVD and do a repair. The repair was done in seconds, and the machine rebooted twice. Second time worked. I'm just curious; what could have caused this? Did anybody else experience it? It's been a really long time since I've seen patches screwing up Windows. Years, in fact. Before rebooting, I installed a new version of VirtualBox. Could that have such an effect? I also installed Netbeans, and an update to Actual Title Buttons. Does anyone have a theory? My system: Windows 7 x64. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. The reason why you can’t start the computer after installing patches can be due to several factors: · The patches aren’t installed correctly. · The patches are not compatible with Windows 7. · The boot file is corrupt during installation of patches. To verify the cause of the problem, I would like to suggest: 1. Open Event Viewer, see if any error is logged. 2. Check the compatibility of patches in either manufacturer's website or Windows 7 Compatibility Center. 3. After repairing the startup problem, please create a restore point, then install the patches you mentioned one by one and see if the issue occurs.
