Windows explores shuts down when opening certain folders.
I had to re-format my drive and re-install Windows XP.Prior to doing this, I copied folders I wanted to keep to a seperate disk. After I was done re-installling Windows, I placed the copied folders back onto drive c. When I try to open some of the folders, windows explorer gives an error message and shuts down. This also happen when I created an avi copy of a dvd I had. The program I used to create this copy placed the copy in a folder. When I tried to open that folder, windows explorer shut down again.Any ideas what is going on ?1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi BDSarge,What is the error message you get when you open folders?Step 1: Check for the issue in ‘Safe Mode’. In Safe Mode, you will have access to basic drivers and system files.A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222Step 2:If the issue does not persist in Safe mode, then put the computer in a clean boot state and check if the issue persists.a. Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.b. Refer the following Microsoft KB article for more information on how to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in XP:How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353Note: After troubleshooting, make sure to put the computer to start as usual as mentioned under the section 'Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state' in the above KB article.Regards,Manasa P – Microsoft Support.
