Windows explorer is repeatedly terminated and notification icons disappear.
Especially (I think) when I access network drives, windows explorer is unexpectedly terminated so frequently, and after recovering, some notification area icons disappear or, sometimes, notificaiton icons are mixed up with each other. That is, when I clock on a icon at the notification area, another program is activated. Is there any cure for this?

This suggests a dodgy LAN Are you wireless or hardwired? If the icons are misbehaving, you have deeper problems Insert the Windows DVD and boot it, select repair when prompted, backup in case it chokes My MVP is for the Windows Desktop Experience, i.e. Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 IT Remote Assistance is available for a fee. If you enter into Safe Mode with Networking, does this issue occur? Try a Clean Boot, disable the startup items and non-Microsoft services to check if the problem happen again. Any related logs in your Event Viewer? Run a system file check to fix the possible corrupted system files. If you have a backup, please restore to the time points that everythings works without issue. I tried system file check, but there was no problem. And, since the problem has been persisting from a long time ago, I couldn't remember the exact time the problem started. So restoring the system state is not possible. Did you try Safe Mode with Networking and Clean Boot ? The error log you provided could be caused by many reasons, we need to narrow down the issue. If it still happens in Safe Mode with Networking and Clean Boot, please enable the user-mode dump as following: 1. Click Start, input regedit in the search box, press Enter 2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting 3. Right-click Windows Error Reporting, choose New Key, name it LocalDumps. 4. Right-click LocalDumps, choose New Key, name it Explorer.exe 5. Click Explorer.exe, on the right pane, right-click choose New Expandable String Value, name it Dump Folder. 6. Double-click Dump Folder, set the value date: C:\LocalDumps If the Windows Explorer crash again, upload this C:\LocalDumps folder to your SkyDrive in a public folder and give us a link here. Then I'll check if can find the cause. I tried a clean boot, but the same thing still seemed to be happening. Another problem is that, even after I followed your instruction to edit the registry, C:\LocalDumps folter has not been created after the Explorer crash. Could you give me another direction?

Something you can try While I won't guarantee what I'm about to say is correct (either way this won't hurt anything except eat up about 10 minutes of your time), I'm thinking it may be possible your hibernate file "might" be corrupt. Since you did not tell us which OS you are using I'm going to assume your using windows 7. The following link should help you: http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-enable-or-disable-hibernate-in-windows-7/ once you turn it off make sure you delete the hibernation file in the root of your hard drive then follow the steps on the same page to re-enable it. Hope this helps.

Do you have a backup? You can do a system restore. If not, please boot from Windows 7 DVD and do a repair, refer to here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/7728/troubleshot-startup-problems-with-startup-repair-tool-in-windows-7-vista/ If the issue persists, I suggest you perform a In-Place upgrade. Hello. Actually, Im thinking of reinstalling as the last solution to try. Fortunately, I finally succeeded in getting error dumps. Here is the link: http://cid-33663aed694e5847.office.live.com/self.aspx/LocalDumps/explorer.exe.3420.dmp Please check the dump file and I hope you could give me a solution this time.
