Windows explored not working at all suddenly.
I am using windows 7 and previously my windows explorer was working fine. Today when i try to open it i couldn't at all. Same thing happens to my google chrome browser, as of now i am using firefox to post this. and when i restart my desktop, i got error 80004005 on startup. I tried using sfc /scannow but the scan stopped at 30% and the log says : 2012-04-11 15:52:03, Info CSI 00000234 [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction 2012-04-11 15:52:05, Error CSI 00000235 (F) STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND #4132901# from Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::DirectFileSystemProvider::SysCreateFile(flags = (AllowSharingViolation), handle = {provider=NULL, handle=0}, da = (SYNCHRONIZE|FILE_READ_ATTRIBUTES), oa = @0x20dcae0->OBJECT_ATTRIBUTES {s:48; rd:NULL; on:[106]"\??\C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-mfc42x_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16778_none_4f17984a6f34e471"; a:(OBJ_CASE_INSENSITIVE)}, iosb = @0x20dcac0, as = (null), fa = 0, sa = (FILE_SHARE_READ|FILE_SHARE_WRITE|FILE_SHARE_DELETE), cd = FILE_OPEN, co = (FILE_SYNCHRONOUS_IO_NONALERT|0x00004000), eab = NULL, eal = 0, disp = Invalid) [gle=0xd0000034] 2012-04-11 15:52:05, Error CSI 00000236@2012/4/11:05:52:05.162 (F) d:\w7rtm\base\wcp\sil\merged\ntu\ntsystem.cpp(2057): Error STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND originated in function Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::DirectFileSystemProvider::SysCreateFile expression: (null) [gle=0x80004005] 2012-04-11 15:52:05, Error CSI 00000237 (F) STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND #4132900# from Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::CDirectory::OpenExistingDirectory(...)[gle=0xd0000034] 2012-04-11 15:52:05, Error CSI 00000238 (F) STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND #4132899# from Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::CDirectory_IRtlDirectoryTearoff::OpenExistingDirectory(flags = 0, da = (SYNCHRONIZE), oa = @0x20dd3d8->SIL_OBJECT_ATTRIBUTES {s:40; on:"amd64_microsoft-windows-mfc42x_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16778_none_4f17984a6f34e471"; a:(OBJ_CASE_INSENSITIVE)}, sa = (FILE_SHARE_READ|FILE_SHARE_WRITE|FILE_SHARE_DELETE), oo = (FILE_DIRECTORY_FILE|FILE_SYNCHRONOUS_IO_NONALERT|FILE_OPEN_FOR_BACKUP_INTENT), dir = NULL, disp = Invalid) [gle=0xd0000034] I tried the steps given in this link: techspot dot com/vb/topic58138 dot html but i didn't find any malware EDIT : on top of it, i can't even access control panel to uninstall programs or any other stuffs that's related to explorer. I tried to open skype, it doesn't work either. On services tab, there are plenty of processes under the status stopped. i tried using safe mode but it's the same, i couldn't open explorer.

1. Have you tried to boot inito safe mode and return to previous restore point? 2. You can set in the F8 menu logging startup and see what is happening during startup 3. Are there any traces in Event logs? 4. Try clean boot to restrict startup to basic components. 5. If sfc fails and no other test helps, I would start install from W 7 medium and instead of install new system use "Upgrade" Regards Milos
