Sounds like you may still be infected. To be sure download, update and choose a quick scan with Malwarebytes. Choose to remove anything found. If the scan does not detect any infections you may have to completely remove office and reinstall. Yes....to Bleak Morn. I placed CD with MS Office (official MS product) in CD drive and chose repair. That's when it was is hanging up. The link you suggested states that is the repair procedure. Today, I tried re-installing Office 2000 and got an error 1305 while it was re-installing. F:\PFiles\MSOffice\Office\MSEXCEL.EXE. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. Option to Retry or Cancel. I clicked on Retry button and the same message came back. How can it have a problem finding the file on the original MS Office 2000 disc? The virus protection is Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton SystemWorks BE 12.0. JoelJ 1964...it feels as if I'm still infected. I have Malwarebytes installed. Will removing Office 2000 affect doc. files? That seems like my next step.

Just fixed it. I took the survey and decided to google the error message #1305. Followed steps for error reading file at Microsoft Support http://support.microsoft.com/kb/248263 Cleaned disc and drive. It loaded after cleaning. The repair shop charge would have been almost the cost of Office Ultimate for my new system. Thanks Bleak Morn & JoelJ1964.
