Many AV programs turn Defender off as they replace it. Microsoft Security Essentials is one such program that replaces Defender. It is still installed but disabled to save system resources. To reenable it if you want, Click Start - Control Panel - choose Classic View in left hand pane - choose Administrative Tools - then Services. Find Windows Defender in the list - right click and choose Properties - change Startup to Automatic - then click Start. OR Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - Right click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Type (or copy the below two lines and right click in the command prompt window and choose Paste) sc config windefend start= auto sc start windefend -- .. -- "lsovls10" wrote in message news:1e530e83-4d93-43ff-b65e-2eae9ee4d2e8... >I don't know if i have a virus or not, I unstalled my AVG software and >installed Microsoft Security Essentials and still can't turn on defender. >Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if i have a virus or not, I unstalled my AVG software and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and still can't turn on defender. Any help would be appreciated. 1. You must not have both AVG and MSE ( Microsoft Security Essentials ) installed in the same computer. They will create conflicts and actually reduce the effectiveness of protecting the computer. Pick one and uninstall the other. 2. Both AVG and MSE are supposed to shuit down Windows Defender. It is because they have their own defenders. To have 2 defenders running in the same machine will cause conflicts. 3. You quoted the wrong error code. It should be..... 0x800705b4If it solves your problem, I did it. If it does not, my twin brother did it.
