What is group policy and how do I turn Defender back on?

Hi bluxr6, You can use the Windowsdefender.adm Group Policy template file to control the policy settings for Windows Defender when Windows Defender is installed on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or a later operating system. By default, the installation location of Windows Defender is the C:\Program Files\Windows Defender folder. The Group Policy administrative template file is put in the Windows Defender folder when you install Windows Defender. The file name of the Group Policy administrative template is Windowsdefender.adm. In Windows XP, the Windowsdefender.adm file is in the C:\Windows\inf folder. In Windows Vista, the Windowsdefender.adm file is in the C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions folder. You can use the Windowsdefender.adm template file to control the following policy settings for Windows Defender by following the instructions in the link below. Hi KarthiK, I went to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions folder, only to find there is no Windowsdefender.adm file. I am running Vista Home Premium SP2. What next?

i am having the same problem. I got 2 viruses when my daughter deleted my norton. They were called lvx.exe and something like lnixua.exe I reinstalled my antivirus software and it will not let me update definations nor will it let me turn on windows defender. any help would be much appreciated. I looked in the policydef. folder but there is no windowsdefender.adm file. thanks in advance :)
