Windows could not start the Offline Files service on Local Computer
Hi,A couple of months back I started using Offline Files on Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) and it has been working fine up until two weeks ago when I started running into problems. Basically my previously set up sync partnerships (I have two) have been "disappearing" and the "Always available offline" option is not available. I have tried removing and resetting the partnerships up and it works for a couple of days but then I have the same issue occuring. After doing a little bit of research it looks like the problem is that the "Offline Files" service does not start automatically and when I try to start it manually I receive the following error message:"Windows could not start the Offline Files service on Local Computer.Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified."I have tried rebooting the system a number of times but I still can't seem to get the service to start. I am running a Lenovo T61 with 4GB RAM and 100GB hard disk. I have also searched the Internet expensively and did find some information but unfortunately it mostly pertains to Vista... Any ideas would be most helpful.Thanks.Jesper

Were there any updates installed around the time this started happening?

Hi Adam,I did install all the latest patches for Office 2007 released 6/9, otherwise I have only installed Windows Defender Definition Updates and a Compatibility View List Update for IE8 (KB971930)...Thanks.Jesper

Were there any in particular that were right around the day the issue started?

Hi Adam,The closest one is probably KB971930, which I installed about a week ago. I would assume aDefender definition update would not affect the system but just in case I installed an update yesterday, 1.61.601.0.I was attending a conference and was on other networks than I normally am on, when I got back home and rebooted my laptop I noticed the sync icon was missing from the taskbar and I could not setup offline files.(I did install the KB971930 update just before I got home.) I restarted thelaptop and got the sync icon back and theservices started, however I could still not completely sync my files so I removed "Always Available Offline" on the folder I was trying to sync and set it up again and got it to work. That was about a week ago. Today, however today I can't even get theOffline Files service to start...Thanks.Jesper

FYI. Removed KB971930 yesterday and rebooted, offline files still a no-go. Just for the heck of it ran a defrag of the hard disk, offline files still no-go... Seems to be a lot of problems with offline files in general judging from the number of hits I got researching it on the Internet. Looks like I will unfortunately have to move away from using it... Great feature but it has to be rock-solid as I'm using it for important data and can't risk not having access to it...Thanks.Jesper
