Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address
Last night after doing a reboot my internet stopped working. I am getting the error stated in the title when I click "repair" under the Local Area Connection Status window. I am using a cable modem and going thru a wireless router. I know they work because I am accessing them wirelessly to type to you all. When I type "ipconfig" in the cmd program I get the following (which I thought was odd):Connection-specific DNS Suffix: Knology.netIP Adress: 0.0.0.0Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0It was also odd to me that I could not access my router by typing 192.168.1.1 in my IE window. Also why I type in ipconfig/release I get a message that says "IP Address for adapter Local Area Connection has already been released." and when I type in ipconfig/renew I get, "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: The RPC server is unavailable."Just another note to add, I did a system restore to a point one week before I had the problem and I still have the same issues.I hope this is enough detail for all of you experts out there. Thank you in advance! :)PS Sorry if this was already answered, I've been digging thru forums for the last two hours.

Your machine is not obtaining a IP address from the DHCP server. Without an IP address, it will not communicate to any device on your network. Did the error say "RPC server is unavailable" or "RPC service is unavailable"? Either way, check to see that your DHCP client service and your RPC service is running: Start->Run-> "services.msc"In the window that pops up, confirm that both "DHCP Client" and "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" is present and its status is "Started" and its Startup Type is "Automatic". If not, double-click on it and make it that way. Also check your System Log for any unusual errors: Start -> Run -> "eventvwr.msc". Check both "System" and "Application" logs.Hope this helps, JW

This helped me also, but it keeps happening over and over again. How can I keep this from happening? Is there a permanent fix to this, or will i have to perform this process again and again. Thanks again for your help and I hope you can assist me with my additional questions. FL
