Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile... Windows Vista/Win7/Win2008 machine with a romaing profile
I found lots of topics on this problem closely related but with one difference...It's always about a profile that worked before and then got corrupted. However, I installed a NEW domain with a NEW Domaincontroller and a NEW Win7 workstation, created a NEW domain user and still got the problem: Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile... I've upgraded the folder c:\users to allow everyone FULL control, shared the profile share on the domain controller with FULL access and allow EVERYONE FULL access. I even put the domein user in the domain admin group.... Stilll. He's unable to log on with a roaming profile. After the logging (with the temporary profile), the profile share on the server is accessible So, what am I missing here? We had no problem with this before we upgraded from Win2003 server (AD domain) to Win2008 (AD domain) . Any help is appreciated Daniel

Perhaps some more info What does work is the following Create a new domain user but DO NOT fill in the profile path Log (without any problem) on to a domain joined workstation/terminal server with the newly created domain user (a local copy of the profile is created), then logoff (no upload of the profile because no path available) Fill in the profile path in the domain user properties and log-on again. Then, after the second log-off, the profile is copied to the profile-share on the server according to the specified path....After this, everything seems to work out well! Now, when I look at the security settings I'm (as domain admin) not allowed....Unknow account! What kind of account is unknow to a domain admin (that has rights to create a folder and content on the profile-share)? So, who's the owner of this profile-copy? And why does it not work when there is a path specified on the first login (like it used to work in pre-win2008 domains) Kind regards Daniel

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. On the client side, in case this issue is due to conflict with certain third party software, I would suggest disable your antivirus software\firewall and prepare clean boot to troubleshoot first. Meanwhile, you can post the corresponding error from event viewer here. Based on the description, it probably has something to do with the configuration or permission on the server side. As this forum focuses on Windows 7 specific issues, this inquiry would best be posted to Windows server forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsserver The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding. Best Regards Magon Liu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum.
