Windows cannot create a homegroup on this ncomputer
I have reviewed the abgve articles and have a similar problem. I recently acquired a used HP tower/ Win 7 ultimate and attempted to create a homegroup with my VAIO/win7 laptop both 64 bit using a wireless router, The VAIO created the homegroup
and under the network tab in windows explorer recognizes both computers and the router. When I attempted to create a homegroup on the HP, I got the above message. A solution was provided by an IT Tech to go to C:\windows\serviceprofiles\localservfice\appdata\roaming\peernetworking
and delete idstorefile. I have no peernetworking folder, only a microsoft folder, the VAIO has both folders. I suspect this may be the problem. How can I reconstitute this file folder, I am sure it should be a part of the ultimate verswion
of win7. can I copy and paste from the home edition?

Hi,
Please check the
Peer Networking Grouping,
Peer Name Resolution Protocol
and
HomeGroup Provider services
must both be running. Here's how to check this:
a) Open Administrative Tools by clicking the
Start button , and then clicking
Control Panel. In the search box, type
administrative tools, and then click
Administrative Tools.
b) Double-click
Services. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
c) In the
Status column, next to the
Peer Networking Grouping,
Peer Name Resolution Protocol and
HomeGroup Provider services, you should see the word
Started. If you don't see this, double-click the name of the service, and then click
Start.
Also please refer:

Furthermore, you can disable IPV6 for test.
Hope that helps.

I would suggest you to leave the home group & recreate the homegroup
if you have created any on the laptop or desktop pc by doing the following steps:
Ensure both pc & laptop is power on so you could access the home group. Next go to either one say laptop first. Acess home group under ctrl panel>network and internet>home group.
Verify do you have this option or wording under home group setting as in
Change the password (for both pc and laptop) if there is, select
leave the home group, make sure both pc and laptop are apply accordingly as the above.
Next ensure both the pc and laptop are in the same screen as the following linked
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v174/olivero/Homegroup-1.jpg
Next go to the laptop and hit on create home group tab, ensure all stuff which you wanna share are checked (pictures, doucuments, video, prnters etc) and hit on next and a home group password would be automatically assign for the laptop
On the other hand, the pc would automatically detect the home group, all you need is to the hit
join now tab and you would be promted to enter the home group password (just type the home group password for the laptop which was assign earlier on) and hit next, once is done it would display you have joined the home group
Note:ensure both homegroup are using the same password
