Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP.
Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP 3. Error message indicates this is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer - check the firewall settings for the HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21). I have checked and remedied (I believe) the firewall settings still no luck. Have triplechecked all other known variables such as cable modem, ethernet cabling, ISP, Ethernet adapter (uninstalled, reinstalled), TCP/IP settings, other antivirus SW (Norton - so I removed it), tried turning Windows FW off too. I have been successfully using this exact equipment and connectivity for many years already, all of a sudden just stopped working. Seems to be (maybe) related to recent automatic MS SW config and security upgrades coincidentally? Although now I can't connect and get any recent upgrades either. Reason I know the problem is not cable modem or ISP or cables is because I have another laptop connected to those components (manually swap cables etc) and that works fine. So it's something on my home PC. Anyone else experienced this recently and if so what ultimately fixed it for you besides buying a new PC?2 people need an answerI do too

Hi nonwiz, I would suggest you to perform a system restore to the date when the everything was working fine. thanks I tried doing that about 20 times choosing different dates etc and each time after reboot the system indicated that System Restore was not successful - it wouldn't allow the restore to occur. So then I went to various forums to look for error messages and advice about that and got a dozen or more suggestions including downloading FIX IT, MS Registry, Malware something or other, etc. and none of them worked to either fix the System Restore issue nor allow network connectivity, I give up at this point I've spent far too many productive hours chasing something here, will have to chalk it up to the bad guys out there who make a career out of making consumer's with PCs go through ____ just because they aren't as up to to speed with latest virus/malware etc. guess I'll have to go spend more money and time on a new PC, guess I have a virus that no one can detect or fix, that's the only thing I can imagine.
