Windows backup will not function.
I am unable to schedule a backup or alter settings or manage space, or use any of the functions in control panel. I can create a system image or repair disc. When selecting any of the other choices nothing happens at all. I did have scheduled backups running at one time but cannot find anything that may have caused this to stop functioning. Any ideas would be gratefully received. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. System Restore stopped working but once I uninstalled anti virus (AVG) and firewall (ZoneAlarm) system restore works again.

Hi, Did this issue occur before? Generally speaking, this issue can be caused by the following factors. 1. The Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) service is disabled. 2. Some system components might be damaged. 3. Some Other applications might conflict the configuration of Windows Backup. I suggest we try the following suggestions to check the issue. Verify the VSS service ======================== 1. Click “Start”, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter. Note: If UAC (User Account Control) window is prompted for permission to continue, please click “Continue”. 2. Double click “Volume Shadow Copy Service” and switch to “General” tab. 3. Change the “Startup type” to “Automatic” and click “Apply”. 4. Click “Start” and click “OK”. If it does not work, I also suggest you run System File Checker to check the issue. Run System File Checker ======================== 1. Click the “Start” button, “All Programs” and “Accessories”. 2. Right click on “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator”. 3. Type "SFC /Scannow" (without quotation marks) in the Open box, and press Enter. And you could uninstall the application you install recently to test the result. If the issue persists, you can perform an in-place upgrade to repair Windows 7. Hope it helps.
